Join Fiesta Latino Thursday 25 April 2019  and Enjoy contemporary Mexican fare and quality agave spirits overlooking Marina Bay

Super Loco Customs House, has become the go-to for many of the expat after work crowd and for socialising over the weekends here in Singapore. If you have not had a night here as yet, get it onto your list. This is a vibrant contemporary Mexican Cocina Bar located in The Fullerton Heritage precinct, along the Marina Bay waterfront. Co-owned by Christian and Julian Tan, Ajay Parag and Culinary Director Chef Jason Jones, Super Loco Customs House is inspired by the delicious street food and fascinating culture experienced during the group's travels to Mexico.

The restaurant serves up contemporary Mexican fare with a strong focus on ambience and design. “From opening our first casual taqueria and Garden Bar Lucha Loco in 2012 and launching family-friendly eatery Super Loco Robertson Quay in 2014, the group has created something awesome here in the Fullerton Heritage precinct. The space is casual and fun. Guests always discover a raw yet refined feel and vibe that complements the historic Customs House space and breath-taking Marina Bay backdrop.” says Christian Tan, Director and Co-owner of The Loco Group.

The Food

The food menu is designed by Culinary Director Chef Jason Jones. Chef Jason co-founded the popular Mexican restaurant Mamasita in Melbourne and is regarded as one of Australia’s top chefs. He joined The Loco Group as Culinary Director in 2015 to oversee menu and kitchen development at all outlets. The new menu at Super Loco Customs House is particularly inspired by his recent trips to Mexico where he tasted and learned from some of the country’s best restaurants and street side eateries.

“The plates at Super Loco Customs House are our modern and fresh take on authentic Mexican flavours. The new venue allowed us to experiment with dishes showcasing a few more premium ingredients such as lobster, wagyu and oysters to suit a more corporate dining crowd. I’ve distilled the essence of this incredible cuisine but presented it in creative and unique ways that
will appeal to the local palate here.” says Chef Jason.

Super Loco Customs House is open for weekday lunch in addition to dinner. The lunch menu includes a Tortas section, a list of hot Mexican sandwiches, which are commonly found on the streets of Mexico. A new Ensaladas, or salads and a Para La Familia, or large platters to share, selection is offered at both lunch and dinner. The group’s well-loved Tacos, Quesadillas and Tostadas are also featured on the new menu.

For lunch, a must-try is the Torta De Camarones ($21+), with grilled king prawns, avocado and an achiote mayonnaise enhanced with prawn and lobster oil. For the busy crowd looking to dine and dash, Super Loco Customs House features an express lunch menu of 3 courses served in 20 minutes at $25+ per person. Those seeking a more leisurely afternoon meal can opt for a 5 course lunch menu at $50+ per person. The restaurant also has a to-go take away menu featuring Tortas, Tacos, Salads and Sweets.

Available for both lunch and dinner, guests can enjoy a long list of fresh Ensaladas. Notable highlights include the Pepino Y Mas ($6+/$11+) with diced cucumber, blanched cactus, mint, shaved fennel, radish and a fresh yoghurt dressing. Super Loco Customs House offers larger plates for family style sharing. Tuck into the Plato de Mariscos ($88+) with flame grilled octopus and barbequed prawns marinated in garlic, coriander and finished with a serrano chili salsa. The platter includes grilled fish with an orange and oregano marinade and fresh oysters. You can enjoy your own DIY tacos with the accompaniments of hand pressed tortillas, vtomatillo salsa and green salad provided on the side.

Other recommended dishes include the traditional Tlayuda ($20+), a type of Mexican flatbread, which has been revisited with the addition of Cecina, a house-cured Wagyu that is airdried for 3 months, black bean hummus, fresh queso Oaxaco and peppery rocket. Mole Oaxaqueno ($7+) served more conventionally with turkey during celebrations is presented as a snack to tease the palate. Chef Jason individually roasts and toasts a staggering 30 ingredients that include sesame seeds, tomatoes and mulato chillies, before combining and cooking them down for hours.

The sauce is pureed and enriched with chocolate and vinegar before being served on a platter with freshly made tortilla y sopes. Diners will also enjoy the Langosta Tostada ($25+). Lobsters are gently cooked and receive a hit of a lemon dressing before being placed on a crisp tostada with avocado, celery hearts and spring onions. The dish is finished with piquillo pepper and orange infused mayonnaise.

The menu at Super Loco features 28 vegetarian menu items and is 90% gluten-free, perfect for those with dietary restrictions.

The Drinks

The beverage programme at Super Loco Customs House is drawn from the group's love of tequila and all things agave. The restaurant aims to showcase the largest selection of agave spirits, offering an astounding 80 different artisanal Tequila, Mezcal and Raicilla options, including the best universally regarded aged tequilas - the Fuentesca tequilas aged 9,12 and 18 years, created by Enrique Fonseca, a legendary tequila master. Super Loco Customs House has over 20 unique cocktails including 9 different signature margaritas that are a reflection of the vibrant, bold and zesty flavours of Mexican cuisine and culture.

The cocktail menu was heavily inspired by visits to hideaway Mezcalarias and trips to the Mexican markets to sample local fresh fruit and agua frescas. Must try cocktails include the Prickly Pear Mezcalita ($18+). Prickly Pear, the fruit of a cactus, gives this delicious mezcal based margarita an intriguing smoky profile, before it is balanced with refreshing bergamot and a spearmint infused agave nectar. Another cocktail to try is the Coco Mojo ($17+).

The Coco Mojo is minty fresh with citrus fruits, coconut water and the group’s favourite Cimarron Blanco tequila. For the ultimate pick me up, opt for the Mexpresso Martini ($18+), made with a base of vodka, Kahlua, a shot of espresso and a dash of mezcal for added complexity. The Loco Group prides itself in banning all sugar syrup from its bars, choosing to use only organic agave nectar and their own agave infusions to sweeten their tipples.

Like champagne, agave spirits’ flavor is a true expression of the terroir in which the agave plant is grown. Super Loco Customs House will offer a series of Agave Spirit Master Classes for guests to sample some of the best tequila and mezcal in Singapore as well as learn about production methods and what drives their diverse flavour profiles.

The Vibe

Designed by award winning agency Akin Creative from Sydney, Super Loco Customs House maintains a connection with the heritage of the building it sits in. The design reflects a more mature, refined side to the chaos and excitement of Mexico. Layers were stripped back to reveal the fabric of the structure, and the team included elements such as arches in the design to reference the architecture of Customs House. The space is filled with custom features from the terrazzo on the bar front to brass light fixtures, hand-made tiles and hand painted artwork.

The venue transitions seamlessly from day to night. In the afternoon, gorgeous daylight streams into the restaurant from floor to ceiling windows that encase the outlet, allowing the space to feel bright and airy. At night, the doors are opened and guests can enjoy a pre-dinner drink or dinner in the alfresco area with a prime view of the Marina Bay Sands.

The feel is a raw, relaxed vibe distinctive of Loco spaces but set to enhance the incredible view of Marina Bay. A mixture of music genres from Latin beats to Disco, Funk and Hip Hop are always upbeat and inject an energy to the space, making it the perfect venue for lunch on weekdays and pre-dinner drinks and dinner sessions from Mondays through to Saturdays.

The new Super Loco Customs House in a, 'Super location!' What would be a better way to spend a Friday evening after work, leave the office and just a few minutes away you have a little haven overlooking MBS.

Not unlike Super Loco on Robertson Quay and Luca Loco on Duxton Hill - this incarnation is very, very cool, not pretentious in any way whatsoever but, warm and inviting. It is as though you have been a guest there for years. The venue faces the river and Marina Bay Sands. It doesn't really feel you are in Singapore as you are transported to another place and time while in the spell that is Super Loco Customs House.

The layout is in three different parts, one main area which opens out on to the patio, for groups and larger parties, high tables and stools along the bar area, a bit cosier for couples. They also have seating all down the side, outside for the view of the Bay that we all know and love here in the Lion City.

True to Super Loco's form the staff are just fantastic and a few familiar faces if you have frequented one of the three locations, which makes for an ever more familiar experience.

The staff are super attentive and they know exactly what's on the menu, with recommendations for cocktails and food alike, they couldn't do enough for all of us on our table and it is a breath of fresh air when it comes their focus on service.

As evening set in the lights are dimmed, the music is trendy and it's really cosy - you definitely get that evening feeling and it a difficult feeling to have to leave. You will definitely be back for seconds and thirds - no doubt in my mind.
