BACARDÍ, the world-renowned rum with over 1,000 medals for its quality, taste, and innovation, is happy to announce the return of its annual Rum Month festivities in July. This year's celebration promises to be bigger and more vivid than ever before, with over ten events spread throughout 53 participating establishments.

The event celebrates three renowned rum cocktails: International Piña Colada Day on July 10, International Mojito Day on July 11, and International Daiquiri Day on July 19. These events will provide celebrants with the opportunity to sample classic rum cocktails as well as unique twists on familiar favourites.

The month-long celebration begins with guest shifts at Neon Pigeon and Origin, including well-known bar teams like Shanghai's The Odd Couple and Bangkok's Lost in Thaislation. The celebrations culminate on July 11 at Jungle Ballroom, where Mojito Day will be commemorated with a summer party featuring Head Bartender Adrian Besa and an all-female roster of skilled bartenders.

BACARDÍ Mojito

Mixology professionals Sylvia Chong from ATLAS, Giselle Lee from Employees Only, June Baek from Ola Beach Club, and BACARDÍ-Martini Brand Ambassador Maria Kim will share their unique interpretations of the traditional BACARDÍ Mojito. Attendees can immerse themselves in Caribbean sensations, complemented by a tropical DJ set, creating a scene evocative of Havana's beaches.

Yardbird's Soul of Miami party, held on July 20, welcomes attendees to enjoy a vibrant atmosphere with unique mixology and lively entertainment. On July 22, Smoke & Mirrors will celebrate ReCraft in Manila, while MO BAR Singapore will host a bright tiki festival on July 27. Both events will feature live music and specially designed drinks that recreate the Daiquiri, Piña Colada, and Mojito. These activities will highlight the diversity and ingenuity of rum cocktail mixing, which is ideal for celebrating the summer season.

BACARDÍ Daiquiri

In August, Bangkok's Dry/Wave Cocktail Studio will take over Offtrack, while Penang's Backdoor Bodega will serve BACARDÍ rum drinks in Native. These events will continue highlighting BACARDÍ's diverse collection of traditional and premium rums.

Maria Kim, Brand Ambassador of BACARDÍ-Martini in Singapore, is excited for the festivities. "BACARDÍ rum is aged in the Caribbean sun and has a storied history with heritage rum cocktails." The BACARDÍ Daiquiri, BACARDÍ Mojito, and BACARDÍ Piña Colada are popular summer cocktails that are also part of our brand's DNA. We are excited to celebrate these cocktails again this year with our Singaporean customers. Join us in some of our island's most famous establishments, dance to the sound of rum, and beat the heat with a wonderful rum cocktail in hand as we say'salud!' to the spirit of summer."

Patrons can book events for BACARDÍ Rum Month directly on the websites of the participating bars.

Neon Pigeon: A Night of Japanese Flavours and Bacardi Cocktails

July is Bacardi Rum Month, and what better way to celebrate than with a night out at Neon Pigeon. Located at 36 Carpenter Street, Singapore, this modern Japanese izakaya and cocktail bar is buzzing with excitement. The iconic neon light pigeon welcomes you in, and the positive vibes hit you when you step inside. Divided into a lively bar and a cozy restaurant at the back, Neon Pigeon offers the best of both worlds.

Annie and I were thrilled to attend a media session to sample some inventive cocktails at Neon Pigeon. The night featured some incredible Bacardi Rum concoctions, each priced at $25++ and crafted with flair. Here were the three specialties of the night:

Wrong Island N Ice T177135: This funky twist on the classic Long Island Ice Tea combines Bacardi Carta Blanca, Bombay Sapphire, Patrón Silver, and Grey Goose. It’s as intriguing as it sounds.

Singaporean Fog Cutter: A blend of Bacardi Ocho 8YO and Bombay Sapphire Premier Cru, mixed with yuzu curaçao, lime, cherry, pineapple, almond, sherry, and Angostura bitters. Served in a female torso-shaped glass with LED ice cubes, it’s a visually and flavorfully captivating cocktail.

Pornstar Martini: This playful drink features Bacardi Cuatro and Martini Prosecco with a passionate twist and comes with phallus-shaped pasta. It’s a fun and tasty addition to the evening’s lineup.

Neon Pigeon and Bacardi didn’t just wow us with their drinks; their food was equally impressive. The KFC Bao, with deep-fried karaage chicken and gochujang in a fluffy bao bun, was a standout. Imagine if all KFC were like this – utterly delicious!

The Duck Gyoza was another hit. It was filled with foie gras and served with an orange ginger ponzu dipping sauce. This variation is a worthy one, and the richness of the foie gras added a unique twist to the traditional gyoza.

The Grilled Broccolini with wasabi pesto, onsen egg, and crispy garlic was a delight in the vegetable section. The charred greens were perfectly done, and the wasabi pesto added a wonderful kick. I’ve always loved the charring on grilled leafy greens, and this was definitely on point.

And who knew a Japanese izakaya could serve up a fantastic hummus? The Tokyo Hummus was a genius creation made with edamame instead of chickpeas and sprinkled with crunchy umami furikake. Served with baked chips, it was a dish I thoroughly enjoyed.

Neon Pigeon also features a binchotan charcoal-fired Robata Grill, which offers mouth-watering dishes like pork ribs, pork chops, sirloin, and grilled fish. The grill’s smoky flavours and perfectly cooked meats are a must-try. We didn’t try it this time, but what a reason for a reprise visit. In addition to the regular menu, you can ask the chef to work out an omakase menu with exciting dishes not featured on the regular menu.

To round off the evening, we indulged in a Neon Pigeon-style mojito. Instead of soda water, prosecco provided the bubbles, giving the classic drink a refreshing twist. The mint leaves are blanched in boiling water for one second and refreshed in an ice bath, preserving the aroma and colour of the mint. This might be my new favourite way to enjoy a mojito!

It was a Wednesday evening, and Neon Pigeon was alive with diners and bar patrons. The dark mood lighting and house music created an ideal ambience for enjoying the food and drinks. The personal attention from Corbin and the expertly crafted cocktails by Mario added a special touch to the evening. The friendly staff, who clearly looked like they enjoy their work, made the experience even more enjoyable.

Neon Pigeon is a place that promises a great time, whether you’re there for the food, the drinks, or both. Combining Japanese flavours and creative Bacardi cocktails is a match made in heaven. So, make sure to visit and experience the vibrant atmosphere and delicious offerings for yourself. Cheers to Bacardi Rum Month and the wonderful team at Neon Pigeon!
