YAUMAY

Published - 21 June 2021, Monday

YAUMAY, a dim sum restaurant by Alan Yau, the esteemed London based restaurant curator. The menu is very much anchored on the traditional cantonese dim sum cuisine originating from Guangzhou, with a few eclectic touches from Yau. Signature dishes include crispy aromatic duck, Jasmine tea smoked Kibimaru ribs, Scallop shu mai and venison puff. Photo Credit: Yaumay ヤウメイ

I’ve been a frequent visitor over the last thirty years so for my first restaurant in Japan, I was absolutely clear about what should drive YAUMAY: the quality of ingredients available here is the envy of the world so there was no question this had to be the focus. Owner-chef: Alan Yau

The name YAUMAY consist of two words. YAU, the surname of Alan Yau and MAY, a representation to the optimistic season of Spring, the beginning of life. The combination of the two words provides a well-wishing Chinese expression similar to the poetic gesture. May the four seasons of the year be likened to Spring.

Went here twice this trip, once for lunch and once for dinner. Didn’t disappoint at all. Great service, fine dining, open kitchen adds to ambience and food is outstanding. VicsterNZ
