Ginett Singapore

Published - 10 June 2019, Monday

Ginett Singapore is a hip and happening casual Restaurant & Wine Bar that serves a large selection of freshly cooked cafe style french food, tapas, cheese, cold cuts and exclusive French wines at affordable prices starting at $6 a glass.

Ginett is open daily from 7am to 11.30pm. Serving breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, it's also a place for you to enjoy a drink with friends before or after your meal.

Helmed by General Manager and Chef de Cuisine of R&B Lab, Sylvain Royer, Ginett is located on the first floor of Hotel G Singapore and features high ceilings, an open mezzanine with private working spaces, booths, and communal tables.

It gets busy here so book in advance to secure a communal table, Great spot for large groups. Very lively atmosphere.

The culinary expertise of Chef Sylvian Royer at Ginett goes excellently with the myriad of French wines available here. With a glass of wine being served at S$6 paired with delicious, delicate food; this restaurant is perfect for those who love to dine out frequently. We love the brunches here and recommend you try their Lobster Bisque, Tiger Prawns with garlic, chilli & bacon, Bolognese, La Côte de Boeuf with a side of creamy mashed potatoes and ratatouille.

It’s the season of mushrooms, and the chefs at Ginett are highlighting this prized ingredient in their wild mushroom and wine pairing menu, available until November. Get started on the charcoal-grilled mushroom salad, a delightful mix of maitake and oyster mushrooms, almonds and parmesan shavings and homemade truffle vinaigrette, and paired with a glass of VDP Viognier, Rhône Valley. The wine is a full-bodied white wine that balances out the smokiness of the charcoal-grilled mushrooms.

There are three main courses to choose from, but our recommendation is the duck parmentier. This dish of Barbary duck confit is mixed with cremini mushrooms and lodged between two layers of ratte potato. Topped with gratinated comte cheese, and served with a glass of Château Tour Bicheau, Graves to complement the richness of the main course.

As a youngster, I was fascinated by how perfectly French food was prepared - this was at the same time that I was getting into my French language stride, and a similarly aged to me Vanessa Paradise crooned her tribute to Joe the taxi and his experiences of the embouteillage - or traffic jam:

Soon after, I began to discover the thing that would steer many of my tastes - wine. In particular, French wine, which despite the efforts of other European countries and the ‘new world’ remains the best hooch there is.

Ginett delighted us by revealing that on Wednesday evenings, bottles of wine are buy one get one free up to a value of $100 for a bottle - this means that bottles of Chateauneuf du Pape are on the buy one get one free list. This makes the brasserie one of the best values in town for relatively good wine at reasonable prices.

To go with the lashings of wine are various kinds of meticulously prepared steak - which are best shared - as well as a charcuterie board that was beautifully presented. The snails - always have to have those - are best avoided at Ginett as they were somewhat rubbery.

The staff are very pleasant and the place was packed - in the main, steamy, steamy bar-restaurant area, you’ll find the best people spotting.

Ginett is in the G Hotel, Middle Road

Love the food, love the wine selection. Was there on a date and it was not as noisy and rather cosy. I would have liked it more if the space between each table is farther away.

We love the ambience of Ginett's - funky, buzzy and really great food. Their high chairs are comfortable and lend a casual air to the restaurant. I love their daily specials and cheap French wines! Can't imagine drinking such reasonably priced, good wines in Singapore!!! We now go back often to try different things on the menu. Staff are friendly and efficient. It is like going to my local. I love it!!!

Singapore has long cried out for a stylish and magnificent bistro and Ginette hits that sweet spot. The chef is exactly as you would expect a French chef to be - ebullient and charming, as well as loaded with a full retinue of marvellous stores about cooking across Asia.
The food is properly bistro style - apparently, the word bistro comes from the Russian troops who occupied Paris following the Napoleonic Wars and bystro means fast in Russian. Fable has it that they would yell this at the hapless restauranteurs who took too long to serve them.
The charcoal grill is a winner - La Côte de Boeuf is epic and a sure fire date night extravagance - especially washed down with a bottle of Château Beau Site, St.Estèphe. Alternatively, go for an easy lunch and try the salad bowls are a healthier option and we really liked the Umami Grain Bowl.
Wine is from $6 a glass - it's pretty good - and you can get a proper glass of fizz from $12.
All in all Ginette is a great place to either go for a drink or have a fully blown 3 course French dinner. Just as a proper bistro/brasserie should be - but without the napery.

We are super excited to have sat with Chef Hervé Frerard and discussed his menu last night. The meal was nothing short of unique, fascinatingly individual and without a doubt, sumptuous. Favourite dishes included the tender and succulent veal and the breast of duck. This is french Bistro food at its best. The atmosphere is electric. The staff awesomely attentive. The room was packed both downstairs and upstairs. A perfect location for a gathering of a larger group. tables can accommodate a cosy 2 or a party group of 12 and above. The rise of Ginett Singapore has been gracious, and now in full flight. get here if you can. John Vincent Gordon, ExpatChoice.Asia Editor In Chief and Alexander Knight, attended as guests of Ginett.

I wanted to share this with you all...Ginett is really excited to share that they'll be playing host to one of Thailand’s most revered chefs, French native, Hervé Frerard! The celebrity Chef is no stranger to the spotlight having published his own cookbook Hervhé, and establishing the Thailand arm of esteemed culinary group Disciples Escofffier. Happening from 25 June to 1 July, Frerard’s guest chef menu will be available for dinner with 9 delectable options including highlights such as Beef Oxtail, Crispy Organic Chicken Supreme, Wild Cod Fish and Traditional Rum Baba. I ate there last night and it was nothing short of awesome and spectacular...Brilliant menu

I have not eaten here (yet), but it's a fantastic place to get a glass (or two) of wine! Tasty wines for 6$ a glass?! That's a pretty great deal for Singapore. The ambiance is also pretty lovely and unique. Check it out soon!
