Expat Choice | International Hit Musical "& Juliet" to Have Asian Premiere in Singapore

The smash hit musical that has taken over Broadway, & JULIET is coming to Singapore for a strictly limited season from 21 September to 8 October 2023 at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands. & JULIET will be making its premiere and only Asian stop in Singapore.

With a book by Emmy® Award-winning Schitt’s Creek writer David West Read and music from legendary five-time GRAMMY® Award-winning songwriter/producer Max Martin, & JULIET sees Shakespeare’s most famous love story remixed with some of the most iconic pop songs of the last three decades in an uplifting story of self-discovery, empowerment and love.

& JULIET flips the script on the greatest love story ever told, imagining what would happen if Juliet had not ended it all for Romeo and got a second chance at life and love – on her terms.

Juliet’s new story bursts to life through an addictive playlist of pop anthems by legendary scribe Max Martin and friends, including Since U Been Gone, Roar, Baby One More Time, Larger Than Life, That’s The Way It Is, Can’t Stop the Feeling, plus a brand- new song written especially for the show by Martin.

& JULIET will arrive in Singapore direct from a blockbuster season in Melbourne where critics and audiences alike have been going wild for the show every single night.

& JULIET had its World Premiere in September 2019 at the Manchester Opera House in England, before moving to London’s West End, where it began performances in November 2019 at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London and went on to win three Olivier Awards. The show had its North American premiere in July 2022 in Toronto, where it broke box office records and played to standing-room-only audiences, before heading to Broadway, where it has again broken box office records and played to sold-out crowds.

The Australian production of & JULIET premiered in February 2023 at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre.

We all know the story of the young love of Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare’s tragedy based around the feuding Capulets and Montagues families In Verona. It goes something like this: boy meets girl; girl's family hates boy's family; boy's family hates girl's family; boy and girl kill themselves. Get ready to fall head over heels in love with &Juliet, the new musical lighting up the stage in Singapore. &Juliet is produced Michael Cassel Group in association with MTM/Leyline and presented by Base Entertainment Asia.

&Juliet takes that script and turns it on its head. What if Juliet didn’t kill herself upon finding Romeo’s lifeless body? So we begin this fantastic tale featuring the Bard himself, who now has a co-writer to change the ending of the original play. Enter Mrs. Shakespeare, Anne Hathaway. Brilliant! But can she rewrite her destiny and find happiness on her own terms? You'll be cheering her on every step of the way.

This show is an absolute blast from start to finish, With an original book by Emmy-winner David West Read and a soundtrack of iconic pop anthems from legendary Swedish producer Max Martin, &Juliet bursts with humour, heart, and jam-packed with iconic pop songs that you already know and love. Every Max Martin chart-topper is given an electrifying production number, from the sassy "I Kissed A Girl" to the anthemic "Roar." The whole theatre was on their feet for the epic mash-up finale featuring "It's My Life" and "Baby One More Time”, amongst other hits.
