Cooking on Sundays should be left to the talented chefs of Australia and here in Melbourne, the weather is such, we simply don’t want to lift a finger; but we do want to eat. There’s a nip in the air of Melbourne with showers every now and then and we can’t think of anything better than a piping-hot, hearty Sunday roast.
So let’s scan the best Sunday roasts in Melbourne and take our pick, shall we? Image Credit: Sarah Sands Hotel Facebook Page
Epocha
Dine in a contemporary European setup on a magnificent terrace at Epocha overlooking the Carlton Gardens. Enjoying the roast here is quite the affair and we’re sure you’ll love every bit of it. You can sit down with your family and enjoy a roast together for $65. The variety of entrees served are generous and the meat is absolutely divine and is changed every week. Each person gets an individual dessert as well and we feel it is a Sunday well spent and a food coma worth having. Image Credit: Epocha Facebook Page

The Local Taphouse
Experience a sizzling hot roast on a rooftop at The Local Taphouse, a gorgeous tavern with crisp craft beers, and sumptuous nosh. The ambience here is cheery and so is the service. On our last visit, we had a lovely plate of slow-roasted beef with braised black cabbage, roasted veggies, onion gravy, and yorkshire pudding. The roast served here is served all day till sold out and comes at $25 plus you can add their dessert special for an extra $5. They also recommend booking and so do we, so you can choose your preferred table. Image Credit: The Local Taphouse Facebook Page

The Orrong Hotel
The Orrong Hotel is a 150-year-old pub, let it sink in as you sit down and plan to have one of their chilled beers. Recently restored, the pub welcomes you with a new shine yet maintaining its old-school feel. You can now come down to play pool and other games to work up your appetite. They have a lovely Sunday roast serving different meats on rotation with tempting trimmings for $25 and they start at 11:30 AM till sold out. Our recent roast here was pork belly which came with a parsnip puree, roasted potatoes, broccolini, and a delicious gravy. Image Credit: The Orrong Hotel Facebook Page

The Wolf And I
Amp up your weekend roast experience with live music at The Wolf And I, a contemporary pub offering a fun vibe. The roast of the week is announced on their social media and usually rotates between porchetta, lamb, and chicken. You’ll love the trimmings just as much as the meat as they are served plentiful with a smashing variety like carrots, peas, baked cheesy cauliflower, and crispy potatoes, all for $25. We love sitting by the fire while tucking into their hearty nosh and for the roast we recommend coming in early as they serve until sold out. Image Credit: The Wolf WIndsor Facebook Page

Neighbourhood Wine
What we love about this restaurant is their rotating menu which changes daily according to seasonal produce which means we’re always eating the best and the freshest food. Neighbourhood Wine of course has a lovely selection of wine and makes a delectable Sunday roast. The roast, too, changes with the weather and their menu offers a three-course roast meal for $65. To give you a sneak peak, they are usually rotating between porchetta and beef porterhouse with yorkshire pudding being a constant. The rest includes dishes like mushroom gratin and potatoes, jus-poached pears, and cinnamon custard. Image Credit: Neighbourhood Wine Facebook Page

The Napier Hotel
An old-school, long-standing pub, The Napier Hotel has a charm different from the modern-day pubs. Maybe it's nostalgia for the regulars, and for the others, it's a different kind of haunt to explore and when they do, they get a warm, cosy place with equally warm service, an open bar, a pool table, and vintage decor in return. While the menu has hearty, delicious offerings, we recommend coming here on Sunday, to sit back, enjoy the ambience, a cold beer on tap, and tuck down their delicious roast with all the trimmings. The roast itself, sans the wine, is a hearty feast with options for meat lovers as well as vegetarians all for $28. The protein rotates every week so you can come down every week to try a different meat. They also offer a kids’ roast along with juice and ice cream sundae for $15, which means the entire family can enjoy. Image Credit: Sarah Sands Hotel Facebook Page

The Lincoln
If we speak of scrumptious roasts, one simply cannot miss the award-winning, The Lincoln, a pub which has been around since 1854. Their Sunday roasts are mind blowing but we do urge you to walk in and take a seat well before 12 PM as they get full pretty quickly and roasts are only served till they’re sold out. They rotate between free range pork and grass-fed lamb and beef and the meat is served with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, and seasonal vegetables, all for $38. Enjoy your roast with chilled beer on tap or wine as you sit back, share a laugh with your friends in this cheery pub. Image Credit: The Lincoln Facebook Page
