  • The Pine Garden

Founded in 1984, The Pine Garden is a heartland-boutique bakery with over 38 years of history and heritage that revels in the culture of celebrations. Recognising the need to reinvent a long-standing family business, Mr Wei Chan, Managing Director of The Pine Garden transformed the old-school bakery into one with products that perpetuate a truly Singaporean heritage.

Every creation at The Pine Garden comes straight from the heart – each pastry carefully and lovingly handcrafted by a team of devoted bakers, serving only the freshest bakes one can find while reminiscing the traditional taste.

Every box of Mooncake is meticulously handmade from recipes passed down by top Hong Kong chefs since 1984. The beautiful myriad of colours and contours are testaments of the art in using traditional wooden moulds. The mooncakes are also rested on wooden platforms so that the natural flavours and oils from the paste can be infused onto the skin of the mooncake to elevate the aroma.

The Pine Garden values intricate craftsmanship, along with top-quality ingredients and no preservatives in their creations. That is the hallmark of every single Pine Garden Mooncake.

Sylvia Fernandes, expat contributor in Singapore reports the follow observations....

As the moon cake festival approaches, my mind defaults to the Pine Garden. Having tasted many of their handmade varieties in the past, I was up to try some new flavours that had just been launched.

A choice of baked or snow skin, I thought the Brown Sugar Ginger Tea with Dried Longans was worthy of a try. Loved the combination - brown sugar giving this moon cake a malty flavour, and ginger another favourite flavour of mine, providing an uplift.

Golden Custard Orh-ni, a Hong Kong inspired creation had a velvet texture to it. Tarot paste made this mooncake rich and unique, a twist on the usual lotus paste varieties we had been so accustomed to at this Mid-Autumn Festival.

Every box of mooncakes at Pine Garden is meticulously handmade from recipes passed down by top Hong Kong chefs since 1984. With top quality ingredients and no preservatives, this would be a major deciding factor for me.

Customisation options are also available for corporate or bulk orders. Many who love the flavour of matcha should most certainly try the Dirty Matcha Latte mooncake.

Earthy green tea notes of bittersweet cut the otherwise sweet taste of this much-loved dessert. I loved this matcha flavour. A bite was enough as a palette cleanser after a meal.

Totally breaking the mould of a traditional mooncake form, the crispy skin XO-Sauce paste with Sanxing Scallion was a big draw. So unique with flaky pastry on the outside, this was sourced from Taiwan’s Yilan Sanxing Township. A savoury first in mooncakes and one that will make you run back for more.

Anyone who loves nuts would have to try the Baked Skin Assorted Nuts mooncake, a traditional family recipe. A variety of nuts meet melon and sesame seeds that remind me of growing up days. I always loved nuts and this mooncake presented my greatest weakness.

Last but not least, everyone expects to have a White Lotus Seed Paste with 2 Yolks mooncake at this time of year. I personally don’t feel like I have completed the circle unless I have had this.

While some are put off by egg yolks, that is my favourite part. Lending a salty flavour to the mooncake I feel it lightens the overall taste of this traditional favourite.

With early bird discounts in place this would be the time to put your order in for this hallmark celebration that depicts a successful harvest. Enjoyed today as a time to reunite with friends and relatives while watching the moon, a symbol of harmony and unity.
