Dan Ryan’s was created in Hong Kong in 1989 and currently there are four Dan Ryan’s restaurants in operation in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore.
Dan Ryan’s offers authentic American steaks, ribs, sandwiches and salads in a friendly, lively and upscale atmosphere.
Dan Ryan's operating mission is to serve consistently genuine, uncompromised American food to a standard exactly as one might expect in big city restaurants across the United States, at a price that guests regard as high value.
Taking inspiration from a 1940’s Chicago bar and grill, Dan Ryan's features period music, vintage light fixtures and posters, an antique train circling above the bar, and an artist’s mural depicting vintage Chicago night life.
Whether in a business suit or in causal attire, everyone feels comfortable in the relaxed setting.

I am reminded of trips to Los Angeles as a child, and being amazed at the free and easy way of eating after London’s somewhat very serious eateries. The casual atmosphere, with a mixture of booths served by waiters and a sit-down counter with direct service was always fun - and the portions were simply enormous. I get nostalgic and also remember movies like Pulp Fiction and endless TV shows where scenes are shot.
Dan Ryan’s serves up Americana admirably - the Dan Ryan’s Cheeseburger (S$18.50) is excellent, as is the Buffalo Chicken Wings (S$17) - just the right amount of spicy - and the Chicken Caesar Salad (S$20.50). There are other American (and Italian) comfort food specialities on the menu - the Spaghetti with Meatballs (S$20) was delicious and just what was needed after a day out and the beach at Sentosa.
Other specialities include Barbecued Pork Ribs (full Slab S$45) and their signature 16oz U.S. New York Striploin (S$62) - all very comforting.
This is the kind of place to take the family for lunch or dinner - it’s around the corner from Tanglin Mall - near the Regent and St Regis hotels and they have outlets in Hong Kong.
It is also the place to go for a few beers and bites with friends - the bars at high tables at the front of house are conducive to watching some sports and having out with buddies.
Something they might want to retire at some stage are the moose heads which caused a stir with the younger generation of my family. I wonder if, like taxidermy, the diner’s time is coming to an end? I hope not - and Dan Ryan’s is a good example of why it should stick around.
