The Banana Leaf Apolo

Published - 27 July 2022, Wednesday

The ancient tradition of serving food on a freshly cut Banana leaf has its roots in India. Here in Singapore, the widely popular practice of eating from a banana leaf can be traced back to The Banana Leaf Apolo. The Banana Leaf Apolo has been serving its food on a banana leaf to patrons since it opened its doors in 1974.

For The Banana Leaf Apolo, this practice is more than just a tradition – it is a science! If you're looking for a good place to try Indian food in Singapore, the Banana Leaf Apolo is probably the place you're trying to find.

Popular with local Singaporeans, the restaurant has an excellent selection of Indian favourites. Meals are served in a traditional setting - on a banana leaf instead of a plate. The curries and sambals, the fish and seafood, the vegetarian dishes - all are marvellous, flavorful experiences at a great price.

If you’re in the neighborhood of Little India, you’ll discover Banana Leaf Apolo to be one of the most popular eateries in the area.

This is where you get to feast on flavor-packed South Indian cuisine straight off freshly cut banana leaves (the Indian, eco-friendly way!), and the menu’s line-up holds incredibly affordable prices to boot!

Established back in 1974, the founder of this restaurant took inspiration from Apollo 11’s moon expedition with high hopes for his humble venture to mirror the same successful take-off — today the brand has earned a reputed place amongst its patrons, thanks to the team’s hard work, dedication and unwavering commitment to serve quality food and impeccable service standards.

The food and atmosphere were great. Highly recommend the butter chicken..
Unfortunately there was something in our fish head curry that shouldn't have been there which was disappointing. They didn't charge us for the fish head curry.
