The crackle of a spicy Pani Puri, the zing of the sweet and sour chutney, the vibrant, meaty gravies with rice on a plate, or even the simplicity of aloo gobhi; everything falling under the definition of your kind of Indian food is all available in Singapore.
We, at Choice Xperiences, have had a strong hankering to tuck into one or perhaps plenty of scrumptious Indian meals, and here’s what we’ve found at the best Indian restaurants on the island. Image Credit: Firangi Superstar Facebook Page
Chat Masala
Get ready to feel the numbness on your tongue owing to the fiery dishes at Chat Masala. For Indian food lovers who like it extra spicy, this is the place, which is not to say they don’t have the regular mellow fare. Bite into Pakoras, a spicy monsoon favourite, Mushroom Pepper Fry, Eggplant Strips, and Rasam if you’re a vegetarian and if not, go for their Mutton Biryani, Mysore Mutton, Paprika Prawns, and Kerala Meen Curry. We also love their Palak Paneer, Aloo Gobhi, Yogurt Chilli Fish, and Prawn Curry. Image Credit: Chat Masala Facebook Page

Flying Monkey
A complete experience of an Indian bar scene with bar bites, big plates, and drinks ranging from signature cocktails to the classic Old Monk plus a separate menu dedicated to G&Ts. Meat lovers would simply love their specials—Keema Naan, Chapli Kebab, Quail Sajji, and Haleem. Out here, we love pairing a lip-smacking cocktail like Mumbai 2 Milan with Bombay Bhel, Bang Bang with Pepper Mushroom or Seekh Kebab, or Quick Gun Murugan with Amritsari Fish. Yum! Shikar
Dine like the Nizams at Shikar, a restaurant helmed by Chef Jolly, who’s attention-to-detail has led to a delicious selection of dishes on the menu. The interiors imbibe a royal charm with stylish lamps, comfy living room seating and impressive paintings. We recommend their Roasted Sweet Potato Goats Cheese Tikki Chaat, Grilled Tiger Prawns, Spinach Mash Garlic Chips or Braised Australian Hind Lamb Shanks with breads, rice, and raita. Do save some space for their Crisp Medjool Dates - Coconut Crepe with coconut ice-cream. Image Credit: Shikar Facebook Page

The Banana Leaf Apolo
Named after Apollo 11, the first spaceflight responsible for landing humans on the moon, The Banana Leaf Apolo’s popularity has risen with a similar speed in Singapore. The menu curated by Mr. Chellappan has been delighting diners since 1974 and we’re in absolute awe of the kind of food served here. We’re fans of their signature Apollo Fish Head Curry, Chilli Fish, and Fish Malabar. They also serve regular Indian fare like Chicken Lollipop, Samosa, Apolo Chicken Masala, Mutton Masala, Bhindi Masala, and Black Dhall. Image Credit: The Banana Leaf Apolo Facebook Page

Firangi Superstar
Dine at Firangi Superstar in sass and style as the restaurant demands smart casuals and dressing up and we absolutely don’t mind. The decor and interiors itself are so jazzed up, we’d fit right in with sharp attire and baubles. The experimental menu proudly declares a delicious plate of cauliflower couscous, masala, and crispy potato and says, This Is Not Aloo Gobi. Agreed, it is not and we did enjoy their take on this classic vegetarian dish. We also enjoyed Sacred Earth Samosa, Grogu’s Roast, and Chocolate Jamun. Nom, nom. Singapore Zam Zam
One of the oldest Indian-Muslim restaurants on the island, Singapore Zam Zam has been feeding happy patrons since 1908. Spread over two floors of a building at North Bridge Road, the food here is so good, you wouldn’t be able to resist licking your fingers. We recommend their set deals which are pocket friendly and filling. Their chicken and mutton curries as well as the biryanis are not-to-be-missed. They also have plenty of refreshing tea and coffee beverages to wash down the rich, meaty gravies. Image Credit: Singapore Zam Zam Facebook Page

Komala Vilas
If we were craving for an authentic, crispy dosa with a generous helping of aloo masala and sambar, we’d head straight to Komala Vilas. The variety of dosa itself is enough to leave you spoilt for choice but we’d recommend their Chicken Masala Dosa or Curry Leaf Podi Dosa. Feeling ravenous? Go for their full plate meals all of which come with a choice of fish gravy, chicken gravy or crab masala, three vegetables, appalam, homemade potato chips, and carrot halwa.
