I often struggle to find a high quality restaurant experience in the Robertson Quay area, but I believe I have now discovered the key to the Quay is to go back a few streets onto Muhammed Sultan Rd.

A street with a long and colourful history, it still houses some quaint century old shop houses amongst the glitzy high rise condos and it is there you can find the world’s 13th best steakhouse – Bistecca Tuscan Steakhouse.

As only one of two Singapore steakhouses making the World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants 2021, it immediately impresses with its romantically lit garden courtyard and exposed brick interior. The restaurant itself is rustic and welcoming and offers an almost private dining experience with its cosy leather booths and separate dining spaces.

All the way back is an intimate Chef’s Table offering a peek into the open kitchen action, perfect for a group Tuscan feast.  And on the architecturally impressive second floor is La Soffitta, a private dining events space available for those special occasions.

Settled into our booth, we are heartily welcomed by the manager Fabio, a true Italian gentleman. He recommends one of the signature starters, a famous 300g Burrata touted as one of the best in Singapore, served with succulent sweet chitose cherry tomatoes, prosciutto di parma and rocket salad. We are tantalised by the creaminess and divine flavours of this hand-formed young mozzarella cheese, bellissimo!

Being a Tuscan Steakhouse, one is spoilt for choice in terms of pasta creations. There is some debate as to whether we should try the Ravioli with sweet pea and goat’s curd, wild garlic pesto and pine nuts or the Seppia Spaghetti, squid ink pasta, lobster and prawn, uni butter, confit tomatoes and fennel. My love of seafood wins out this time and we are elated with the delicate and fresh seafood flavours.

Like all good Tuscan steakhouses, Bistecca is famous for their Fiorentina sharing steak – a 1.1.kg T-bone which is thick cut in the traditional Tuscan manner and comes with an impressive pedigree (F1 Kuroge Washu bred wagyu and Tajima cattle bloodline, 420+ days grain-fed, marble score 6 from Australia). Being a T-Bone we get to try both the tenderloin side and the striploin side – cooked to perfection, the meat literally melts in our mouths and is bursting with flavour.

Our meat is accompanied by some wholesome greens including the Brussel Sprouts with bacon and wholegrain mustard and the Broccolini with chili flakes and parmesan. To wash it all down, a smooth and intoxicating La Boncia Chianti compliments the bold meat flavours.

With generous portions it is difficult to imagine room for dessert, however the Sticky Date Pudding with Bailey’s, toffee, macadamia nut and brown butter pecan gelato and the Pistacchio Cake with poached pear, marsala reduction and honey gelato were simply too good to resist.

With impeccable service, an intimate and sophisticated ambiance and some of the best Italian dishes in Singapore, it is easy to see why Bistecca is counted amongst the world’s top steakhouses.
