Michelin-starred curated tantalizing High Tea at Boyutei in Ang Siang for $69++ for 2

Nestled in the blue shop house at Ang Siang this spot does a well-balanced savoury to sweet high-tea experience. You have the option to add-on free flow natural wine chargeable at about $38 ++ per person, weekdays available for $30++ per person. We tried Villa Chavin Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc, it worked well for me. Normally, I get headaches from certain wines. This natural wine worked.

The tea which is inclusive is by the fine tea people of Hvala. Hvala are experts in the craft of tea. Hvala’s tea comes from their exclusive partner farm. We chose the Snowflake Dacong which was a light tea and the other we selected was a crowd favourite called Sakura Smoked. Both teas are different and wonderful in their own distinct ways.

Once the tea was poured, we were mesmerised by a box coming our way. The friendly attentive staff explained that this is known as jubako (tiered box), which is reminiscent of Japanese osechi ryori festivities. The box contained savoury and sweet tiers. Balanced in flavours. It took us from the journey of savoury, to not too sweet to desert. This was a well-balanced experience.

The savoury tier contained unagi toast which was downed quickly by us. We also enjoyed the ebi katsu and the somen with Sakura ebi. Next, we had the olive financier. It was intriguing to us an olive that’ financier. Financiers we have had in the past have been blueberry or other sweet ingredient based. The olive financier was very refreshing. It was not overtly sweet while still retaining all elements of a classic financier. Then, we had the narazuke cream cheese in monaka. It was crunchy and felt like the right progression after the financier. Next up on our journey from savoury to sweet were the bocconcini with moromi miso. In the savoury items our favourites were the somen with Sakura ebi and ofcourse the olive financier.

From the we progressed to the sweet tier. This contained hojicha financier, sticky date, tiramisu, match warabi mochi and goma nama chocolate. The presentation and the textures of each of these deserts elevated the experience. Our favourite was the last one from our sweet tier, which was the goma nama chocolate.

This is truly an all-day experience. I recommend starting here at 2pm then adding-on the free flow wine or the sake. I could easily see us in a very balanced manner progress from high-tea to drinks to the bar-bites (soon to be launched) in this pleasing shop house.

The experience did not feel rushed. Just what we all need sometimes. A pause to reflect, recharge.
