One of my favourite singers from Ireland, Damien Dempsey was there not so long ago and even more recently I saw Gavin James on Paddy's day. Basically this is the place to go for live music and a great pint.

I wanted to share this bio on this beautiful and courageous singer. I am not too much of a writer myself but I want to share this story. I'm going to see her tonight at McGettigans in Singapore............ZARINA ZARR is a singer-songwriter who started off playing music during her teens, when her father first bought her a classical guitar which was later self-taught. At that time, she became obsessed with the Cranberries that she picked up singing as well. She felt intrigued with music making as a hobby and started writing her own original songs; with the likes of Alanis Morissette as the latter became her next music influence! Zarina’s music passion became enormous when she began looking for musicians to form her own band. She advertised her intentions via music magazines and three girls responded to her advert. The members were June the drummer, Melissa the lead guitarist and Imelda the bassist. Together ‘Flying Pills’ was born with Zarina as lead vocalist. It took them nearly two years to complete and rehearse the new songs for the band and eventually they recorded their own album titled ‘Flying Pills’. They also recorded a compilation CD called ‘No Excuse’ featuring women artistes of which Zarina contributed two songs. Soon they were playing everywhere in many parts of Singapore. Their music was a joy to listen to as an all-girl band that they were invited to perform for various events for shows and called for quite a few interviews with the media magazine and Straits Times. It was during this time that Zarina joined the Composers & Authors Society of Singapore (COMPASS) to have her written songs copyrighted and is an Associate member till today.
