Published - 18 August 2022, Thursday

Sigur Rós is heading back to the live stage. The group, led by multi-instrumentalist Jónsi Birgisson, continues to carry its vision around the world and this year, Sigur Rós return to Singapore as part of their much-awaited World Tour 2022.

Presented by LAMC Productions, Sigur Rós will make a pit stop in Singapore on August 17th at The Star Theatre. The show will kickstart the Asia leg of their hectic tour. This will also be the band's third time in the country, following their shows in 2013 and 2016 in Fort Canning. Fans are in for a treat as Sigur Rós is set to perform new material that they've been working on in preparation for their upcoming studio album. Tickets start at SGD$98.

Starting in 1994, Sigur Rós brandishes an ethereal sound that blends musical and experimental elements with Jónsi's sometimes-chilling falsetto voice. They first gained international acclaim with their 1999 album Ágætis Byrju, with some of its tracks appearing on films and tv shows. Soon after, a series of festival sets, solo concerts, and well-received albums followed. Their albums are all worthy listens, but Sigur Rós' music is always best experienced live.

The band are in the process of writing and recording their first new studio album since 2013’s Kveikur and will air new songs at the show, alongside material drawn from their acclaimed 25-year discography. Sigur Rós founding members Jónsi and Georg Holm are joined in the studio and on tour by former member Kjartan Sveinsson, who rejoins the band almost a decade after stepping away to focus on other projects.

Sigur Rós are one of the most successful bands of recent times and one of Iceland’s most successful acts of all time, with six number ones in their home country and a trio of Platinum albums globally. In the years since Kveikur, the band launched the ‘Liminal’ soundbaths and endless playlists, built around blissed-out re-imaginings of moments from Sigur Rós’s catalog both familiar and obscure. In 2020 they released the almost mythical ‘lost’ recordings Odin’s Raven Magic, an orchestral album originally made nearly two decades prior.

The band have also reissued their albums Agætis Byrjun, Takk, ( ), Með suð i eyrum við spilum endalaust and Valtari on their own label, Krunk. Alongside this, frontman Jónsi has released two solo albums, Shiver, featuring contributions from A.G.Cook, Robyn, and Liz Fraser, and the surprise album, Obsidian, which coincided with his solo art exhibition at the Tanya Bonakdar Gallery in New York City.
