The Voices of Singapore (VOS) Choral Society is set to present a series of concerts on 6 May 2023, Saturday, at the Capitol Theatre. Titled "Concert of the People”, the series will showcase the richness and diversity of Voices of Singapore’s choral groups.
The first concert of the series, "Concert of the People - Generations", will take place at 12pm. Featuring more than 400 singers from different generations and backgrounds, the concert celebrates the diversity of Singapore's people through a range of musical genres and promises to take audiences on a journey of dreams, hope, and unity. Performing choirs for this first concert include the largest non-auditioned adult choir, the VOS Community Chorus, and will feature the youngest singers from the Junior Children’s Choirs to the most senior singers in Silver Voices.
The second concert, "Concert of the People - Celebrating Excellence", will feature over 200 singers from VOS's choirs under its "Artistic Excellence" wing. The concert, which starts at 4pm, will showcase the exceptional talent and skill of VOS's experienced choirs. From classical choral pieces to contemporary works, this concert will feature groups such as the Performing Group from the Children’s Choir, VOS Ladies’ Choir and VOS Men’s Choir.
The day will culminate with VOS's inaugural fundraiser concert, "The VOS Fundraiser - Let's Build a Singing Singapore", at 8pm. This invite-only concert aims to garner support for the community impact programs and choral groups to anyone who shares the vision to impact lives through music. The fundraiser concert will showcase the full range of VOS's choral groups and programs, from those dedicated to achieving musical excellence to those focused on community outreach and serving the underprivileged.
The event is not only a celebration of the talent and hard work of the performers, but also a powerful platform to support VOS's mission of using music as a tool for social change.
One of the highlights of the evening will be the VOS Children's Choir Concert Group's debut of their tour repertoire, right here on Singaporean home ground before leaving to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York in June. This will be an exclusive opportunity to witness the talent and hard work of the young performers and support their dreams of singing on the world stage.
