One of the perks of living in Singapore is that it is super convenient for friends and family from all over the world to come over and visit.
But there is so much to do in the city that itinerary suggestions can be overwhelming. Everyone knows the usual Singapore must-dos like Gardens by the Bay, Universal Studios, etc. The city, however, has so much to offer that you needn’t limit yourself to these popular options.
We have done the groundwork for you and left no stone unturned to discover unique things to do in the city. From a whacky DUCKtour where your bus rolls off into the water to a day of forest adventure, there’s plenty for everyone. Here is a 3-day itinerary that gives you a glimpse of the city beyond the obvious.
Day 1
A city tour is a great way to get introduced to the city. But why not try something new and book the DUCKtour where your bus doubles up as a boat and actually rolls off into the water with you on board.
Add to that, there are great photo opportunities along the way with magnificent backdrops such as Marina Bay Sands - plan to see the Marina Bay Sands Spectra Light Show thrilling audiences every evening at 8pm and 9pm and it's FREE, Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, Singapore's national performing arts centre and Merlion Park, a Singapore landmark and major tourist attraction, located at One Fullerton, Singapore, near the Central Business District.
Amateur photographers will love the Singapore street shots photo walk. A five-and-a-half-hour walk including lunch, it allows you to see the underbelly of this glittering city. And your travel photos will be outstanding too.
If you wish to remember your visit to the city with something more permanent than memories and photographs, why not get a tattoo? Familiar strangers tattoo studio offers a safe and sterilized environment and high-quality designs. If you are not satisfied with your tattoo, they even offer to redo it free of charge.
Day 2
Now that you have seen the concrete city, how about escaping to the greens? You could spend a relaxing day at Botanical Gardens admiring the various exhibits like the cactus garden, bonsai and ginger garden.
Further away (12km from city centre) Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is an excellent location for a picnic. Surrounded by forest, it is difficult to imagine that you are still in the bustling city of Singapore. There are plenty of nature trails, depending on the difficulty level you prefer.
Adventure junkies may instead choose to challenge themselves with a forest adventure. This obstacle course for kids and adults has many fun activities including a 67-metre zip line.
Day 3
Dabble in a bit of culture today and visit the National Gallery Singapore, located in the heart of the city. Exhibits keep rotating and currently there is a fantastic exhibit featuring impressionists like Monet (until 11 March). A must-do.
A visit to Chinatown is always fun for souvenir shopping. Club that with the stunning Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum. If you go before 3pm, you may have the opportunity to try the vegetarian meal offered in the basement too.
After a day of sightseeing and culture, it is time to party the night away. Singapore is arguably the cocktail capital of Asia with 13 entries in Asia’s 50 Best Bars. Why limit yourself to one or two pubs when you can do a pub-crawl instead? Held every Friday and Saturday, you can spend the night visiting some of the best bars in the city and make friends along the way. The perfect way to round-up a memorable trip to the city!
