Having opened its doors in 1947, Komala Vilas, Singapore’s oldest vegetarian restaurant, has become a household name. It all began in 1936 when the founder, Mr. Murugiah Rajoo, came to Singapore from his native India. Out of his dedication, tenacity, and foresight, Komala Vilas was born in 1947. In keeping with time-honored traditions in Tanjore District, Tamil Nadu, Mr. Rajoo started serving meals on fresh banana leaves.

After 70 years, Komala Vilas continues to be a family-run business. Today, Komala Vilas conjures fond memories of delicious dosais, sumptuous thali meals, and aromatic South Indian coffee among their patrons. Singaporeans, Indians, tourists, and vegetarians around the world continue to seek out Komala Vilas. They serve both South Indian and North Indian vegetarian meals at three locations.
