The margarine-free Christmas fruit cake is made to order with premium Dutch butter, dried fruits and spices. It has no added preservatives and is fed with El Dorado 5 Years Old rum for at least 2 weeks.
Rum helps to moisten and extend the shelf-life of the cake. The cake soaks up the rum which imparts depth to the vanilla and fruit notes as well as enhances butterscotch creaminess without adding saccharine sweetness.
“Flavourful spirits with higher alcohol level and complexity such as El Dorado rum are ideal for feeding fruit cakes,” shares Aunty Ling who runs Basuki’s Bakery. “It also helps to elevate the taste and texture, as well as accentuate the spices.”
