The name Kilo comes from the phonetic name of the half-blue, half-yellow nautical flag for ‘K’, which signals the message, “We wish to communicate with you.” Kilo aims to communicate moments defined by hearty food, soulful music, warm conversations, and unforgettable occasions. A place that feels like home for people from all different walks and circles of life, Kilo welcomes you for a sharing experience amongst family and friends, both old and new. Kilo’s atmosphere and staff
An oasis away from the hustle of the streets of Seminyak, the venue is an architectural enthusiast’s dream with glass-panelled walls letting the light flood in by day and illuminating the space by night. Complimentary sleek concrete and marble fittings give the space a sophisticated feel in contrast to the lush, green gardens that await your arrival. Don’t let the cool, minimalist vibe fool you. Manager, Alejandro Ledesma Mateos and team greet you with the warmest of welcomes combining the attentiveness of a fine dining restaurant with the typical friendliness of Balinese hospitality that we’ve all come to know and love.
East meets West at Kilo, Bali
With cuisine best described as East meets West, you’ll want to order the entire menu with the fare best shared. Executive Chef, Yohans Gozal, originally from Jakarta, could be considered part ‘mad scientist’ due to the thoughtful flavour pairings in his dishes – think Beef Tongue Tacos with apple-miso slaw and jalapeno butter and Crispy Soft-Shell Crab with compressed watermelon and Thai yellow curry.
Menu favorites at Kilo, Bali
Menu highlights come in the form of Crispy Baby Squid served atop perfectly cooked squid ink rice, providing us with a dish that is both textural and balanced. Or how about soft pillows of ricotta gnocchi married with shimeji and salty-but-not-too-salty miso butter which can only be described as a genius pairing. We were also a big fan of the pork ribs and kimchi potato salad which is everything it should be and more; tender, sticky and sweet with the perfect amount of heat from the kimchi.
Kilo’s first overseas endeavor is situated on the beautiful shores of Bali, along the Jalan Drupadi stretch in the vibrant Seminyak district. Opened in September 2014, Kilo Kitchen Bali offers Kilo’s signature dishes, but also presents menu specials that are created using local ingredients and produce, in the hopes of transforming the sharing experience while captivating the diner’s imagination and palate. Distinguished by unconventional and modern minimalist architecture that challenges the traditional landscape, Kilo Kitchen Bali offers a quiet respite away from all the hustle and bustle. Through their snug space and fusion inspired comfort food, they wish to communicate good times where soulful dishes, tasty music and heartfelt conversations meld. Expat Choice loved the experience.
