The Tanglin Gin Jungle

Tanglin Gin

With the Tanglin Gin Jungle at Dempsey Hill, Singapore will now be Gin-gapore, and rightly so. The Tanglin is indeed a jungle of gins, and is known to boast classics and Asian inspired cocktails like the Tanglin Jungle Juice with a dash of lemongrass and lime, and the “yum” Tom Yum with coconut milk, ginger and kaffir lime leaf. If you wish to kick it up a notch though, we’d recommend the luscious and decadent Mochatini with the perfect blend of cacao gin liqueur and coffee. The Gin-Z people are gonna be left with high spirits. Image Credit: Tanglin Gin Facebook Page

Night Hawk

Night Hawk

Pay a visit to Night Hawk in the ever so flamboyant Tanjong Pagar area for the perfect booze fix. The fine folks at Night Hawk are well known for their hospitality, and take inspiration from classic American diners. The cocktails shadow the decor in telling a rather futuristic story, and the result is evident from the fascinating flavours and textures created. If you’re in the mood for something tropical, the Gamma-ray Holiday is the perfect option. With hints of melon and pineapple infused with a mix of gin and bitter gourd, this one is a burst of flavours with every sip. While none of the cocktails are worth missing, the showstopper is the signature Nighthawks. A combination of lip smacking flavours of rum, vodka, amaro, coffee, chocolate, salt and steaming hot coconut foam. You’ll surely be left craving for more. Image Credit: Night Hawk Facebook Page

La Petite Boulangerie

La Petite Boulangerie

The brains behind the homegrown furniture brand My Selection come to you with La Petite Boulangerie. Helmed by pastry chef Celeste Teh, La Petite Boulangerie is most famous for the Merveilleux, a traditional French and Belgian dessert which comes with a tropical twist in the flavours of Kaya, Passionfruit and Tiramisu. Escargot pastries are not uncommon here either. With rich, cream filled centres and buttery and flaky exteriors, these delights are a must have for anyone willing to host a party in their mouth. Available in flavours of Vanilla Raisins and Gula Melaka, these are best enjoyed with a cup of strong coffee; the sweetness of the pastries beautifully complements the bitterness of the coffee. Apart from these lovely treats. LPB has their regular classic French pastries too. Image Credit: La Petite Boulangerie Facebook Page

Boyutei

Boyutei Japanese Dry Curry

In the mood for Asian food? Well, Boyutei is the place to be! Boyutei, situated at Ann Siang Hill is renowned for serving straight up, authentic Japanese food to its customers, and is the brainchild of one Michelin starred Whitegrass and the expert tea artisans Hvala. At Boyutei, you can get started with savoury delights like the mouth watering Ebi Katsu Sando, a definite crowd favourite, which comes with a soft and delicate brioche toast and a homemade chilli drizzle. Follow that with the extremely fragrant dessert Snowflake Dancong or call for the Sakura Smoked one. The latter is a perfect blend of flavours with the sweetness of the sakura flowers doing a dance with the little hint of sour cherry to balance the smokiness. Put finishing touches with the crepe based Matcha Goma Garden and go home happy.

Akanoya Robatayaki

Akanoya Robatayaki

Akanoya Robatayaki is back on the Singapore map after a hiatus which involved a lot of renovation on their part. The updated space now houses a new bar along with private dining rooms that only further enhances the robatayaki experience that they’re going for. To expand their clientele and draw in a younger crowd, the new revamped menu now features more than 60 dishes with a variety of seasoned ingredients which have been aged and fermented in-house. Moreover, they also include selections from the bincho tan grill, not worth missing out on. Cocktail lovers will be interested to know that Akanoya Robatayaki has now started offering cocktails laced with Japanese flavours. We recommend you take a Long Vacation (yes, it is a cocktail). It is made with umeboshi, lime, shiso leaves, Black Tears rum and Bubbles. Oh and then there is the long list of sake of course! No, we did not forget about that. Maison Shūko

Maison Shūko - Truffle & Chicken Yolk Somen

The Zouk Group is at it yet again, this time with Maison Shūko, a cosy Japanese- French omakase food joint. Make sure to get a reservation before heading to Maison Shūko though, as they have a seating capacity of eight people. The kitchen finds itself in the esteemed hands of not one, but three stellar chefs, Angus Chow, Jeremy Chiam and Justin Foo. Those looking to try exotic meats will find themselves in luck; the eight course menu features interesting meat options like Crocodile & Crackers, where the crocodile tail meat is marinated in a piquant and zesty larb style dressing of ponzu, shoyu and black garlic which comes accompanied with slivers of black charcoal keropok. The best part among all these though is that a three minute short film themed around a key component of the food sourcing process is screened just before every meal. This is indeed a treat for the eyes and the taste buds.
