Lion Brewery at Christmas is a wonderful time of year to visit. Situated around buzzy restaurants and pubs, this venue is a great pick, for it has a brewery with numerous beers on tap plus an excellent buffet of Christmas delights to devour.

What appealed to me most was the not-so-large buffet which had fantastic combinations for guests. A beautiful array of cold cuts and condiments for starters.

Then a fantastic variety of main roasts which were so good. I could not imagine that roast turkey could taste so succulent and juicy. In fact, I thought it was roast chicken! Compliments to the Chef for a great job on what has been deemed to be the biggest criticism guests have about turkey.

Crackling on roast pork anyone? Traditional fare especially for Christmas. I walked away without it thinking "too indulgent". After many raves at the table, as guests chomped into crunchy bits, I made my way back to the buffet to sample a piece.

I did more than sample a bit. I had another helping. The pork roast was so tender, it melted in my mouth. This could only have come from a slow roast over many hours. My pick of the day for anyone who loves a roast. This was the best of the best.

Not that Yorkshire pudding and roast beef was less good. Beef lovers would probably head for this. Accompaniments of Brussel sprouts roasted with bacon and caramelised to cut the richness of meat flavours. Many of us went back for seconds.

I have to say pigs in blankets and sausages not for the faint hearted were also a highlight. Not succumbing to processed meats usually, I decided it was Christmas and threw caution to the wind. Glad I did so. Lion Brewery Co certainly do their meats to perfection.

Gammon ham and boneless lamb leg also available on the buffet but it was time for dessert. Christmas log cake, mince pies and Christmas fruit cake. All expected over Christmas at Lion Brewery Co on the Eve and two seatings on the Day.

If you have planned to go elsewhere for the Christmas festivities, head on down to Lion Brewery Co for the Boxing Day Recovery party with Bloody Mary’s and Espresso Martini’s waiting to greet you.

Whatever you do have yourself a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful rest over this special year-end period!
