The Populous Cafe

The Populous Cafe

The Populus Coffee & Food Co. recently opened and was conceptualised by the same group behind the adored Department of Caffeine, and it has already developed a devoted following. The Populus claims to provide its customers with delicious food and proper classic coffee, despite the fact that it may be the least experimental of the two D.O.C. siblings. The Populus Cafe stands out with its white-washed walls and attractively decorated facade within a row of vibrant shophouses. Its urban yet cosy atmosphere emits a poised and polished aura, luring onlookers inside to relax with a drink or two in this charming setting.

Australian influences can be seen in the menu created by co-owners Andrew Lek and Kang Yi Yang. One of their signature dishes is the Superfood Platter, which includes smashed avocado spread liberally on hearty multi-grain bread along with kale, broccoli, spinach, and other greens drizzled with vinaigrette. The rice and grain bowls, which come with a variety of veggies and meats like pulled pork, teriyaki salmon, and seared wagyu flavoured with truffle oil, are also Instagram favourites. These dishes are not only gorgeous to picture but also fill you up with robust flavours. The waiters' suggestion of the seafood linguine, which features al dente pasta covered in a delectable bisque sauce and served with exquisite crabmeat and scallops, is another great dish. The Populus' attractive ambiance is created by its warm and welcoming staff, making it the ideal setting for engaging in meaningful discussion while enjoying first-rate food and beverages. Knockhouse Café

Knockhouse Café

Looking for a hip cafe to sate your appetite for brunch? Knockhouse Cafe should be your only choice. The repetitive knocking sound baristas make when extracting an espresso shot served as the inspiration for the café's name. It demonstrates their commitment to giving their consumers an outstanding coffee experience. Knockhouse Cafe provides a gorgeous and cosy location, ideal for sipping on your cup of tea and eating a delicious breakfast that's Instagram-worthy. Floor to ceiling windows flood the space with natural light. You're in for a treat, coffee lovers! There are several unique coffee blends available at Knockhouse Cafe. Their seasonal blend, Superlative, delivers a wonderful balance of fruity and chocolate overtones, while their Brazil Fazenda Da Lagoa beans promise notes of hazelnut and caramelised brown sugar. You can't go wrong with their Roasted Almond Latte or Salted Caramel Latte if you have a sweet craving. We also heartily recommend their White Russian, which was modelled after the well-known cocktail, for a special touch.

Let's talk brunch now. Their brunch menu's Duck Confit Hash is a noteworthy item. This dish includes flavorful shredded duck leg and precisely cooked eggs, and is served with your choice of poached, scrambled, or sunny-side-up eggs. The potato rosti, which are delicately salted, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, are the true highlight of the platter. The acidic hollandaise sauce on the side provides a stark contrast to the richness of the duck and rosti. Their menu also includes items like Steak & Egg, Egg Florentine, Mentaiko Mac & Cheese, Char Siew Ramen, and Gyu Tongue Steak if you're in the mood for something different. No matter if you're looking for a fast snack or a leisurely meal, Knockhouse Cafe is the ideal place to enjoy a sumptuous brunch and a cup of their well brewed coffee. So, gather your companions and visit this stunning minimalist restaurant for a memorable eating experience! Image Credit: Knockhouse Café Facebook Page.

Cafe Kreams

Cafe Kreams

Once inside Café Kreams (previously Kreams Krafthouse), you'll be taken to a space that resembles an indoor park. A warm and welcoming ambiance is created by the maple trees painted on the ceiling in gorgeous orange and yellow hues. Take a seat in the shade of the foliage and savour flavorful drinks with warm, freshly baked scones. There are more than just the typical espresso-based cocktails available at this Korean-inspired café. The Summer Latte, which pairs coffee with a wonderful scoop of ice cream, and the Dalgona Latte, which is a creative spin on the whipped coffee fad that has gone viral on social media, are standout choices. This variant of the beverage has crunchy dalgona, a common Korean honeycomb toffee treat, on top. Enjoy a bite of this delicious delight, which contains flavours that are similar to caramel and a hint of bitterness, before it melts into the coffee.

Are you hungry? Scones are Café Kreams' speciality; they come in flavours including dalgona and sweet potato. They also have cranberry and yuzu versions, which add fruity undertones to the strong beers. A scoop of freshly made whipped cream is served alongside each buttery scone, providing the ideal complement to counteract the dryness of the pastry. You should also keep an eye out for their daily variety of cakes. As dusk strikes, Café Kreams transforms into a cosy bar that serves light fare like popcorn chicken and cool pints. Although the food is constantly changing, the cosy and welcoming ambiance never changes, making it a wonderful place to unwind. Image Credit: Kream Beer Facebook Profile.

Introducing Lola's, a quaint café in a garden that values a welcoming ambiance. For a more tactile experience, forget forks and spoons; this place encourages you to dig in with your hands. Following a successful ten years of serving up comfort food, Lola's is returning with a fresh style that was inspired by its second location in Holland Village. Along with the new look comes a brand-new menu of filling and delectable snacks. Get ready for the tantalising Tsukune Sando, which combines fluffy tamago, a juicy grilled chicken tsukune patty, crunchy pickled daikon, and cabbage textures with a delicious furikake aioli. The Spicy Tomato Crab Rigatoni is a dish you won't want to miss if you enjoy Singapore's famous chilli crab. Think of rigatoni pasta tubes encasing blue swimmer crab pieces that are drenched in a delicious, garlicky tomato sauce—pure joy! Let's now discuss desserts.

The reviving Lemon Basil Cheesecake and the exquisite Lychee Rosewater Cake are just two of Lola's new creations. The Strawberry Pistachio Tart, with its nutty deliciousness, is what really steals the show, though. Thus Coffee

Since its debut, Thus Coffee has been making a splash in the neighbourhood. It is located in the serene Sembawang Hills community. Enter this small and adorable café to find modern industrial décor with wood accents, Edison lamps, and large windows creating a cosy atmosphere drenched in daylight. It's the ideal place to relax with a mid-afternoon coffee and an engrossing book or to enjoy leisurely weekend breakfasts with friends. Speciality coffee that has just been freshly roasted fills the air as you walk in. To ensure the highest quality for their coffee blends, Thus Coffee takes pleasure in their in-house roasting. They can accommodate your preferences for black, white, or cold brew. But Thus Coffee is recognised for more than simply its coffee; this hidden gem also serves up warm and reassuring food. We couldn't help but order the highly regarded Smoked Pulled Pork and Scrambled Croissant from their brunch menu when we went. It certainly lived up to the expectations! We were satiated by the flavours' dance on our tastebuds, which also left us wanting more. Thus Coffee is the place to go if you're sick of the crowded CBD cafés and yearn for a spot where you can enjoy hearty food and top-notch coffee.
