Singapore Airlines, the Official Airline, will transport the cute Giant Panda cub, Le Le, back to his motherland in China on January 16, 2024. Le Le's departure indicates his official participation in China's conservation programme, which is an important step towards ensuring the survival of his species. The careful care staff is working hard to ensure the young panda has a smooth transition during his journey.
Le Le will make his final public appearance on December 13, 2023, in the Pavilion Capital Giant Panda Forest at River Wonders. As a result, he will be quarantined until his departure date, giving guests more chances to say their goodbyes. The farewell campaign will run until December 13 and will include photo points, a farewell fan message inbox, and a last farewell party on Le Le's final day at his exhibit.
Le Le's partner, Jia Jia, has been demonstrating avoidance behaviours as part of the Giant Panda species' normal evolution. Notably, Jia Jia has shown early signs of rejection in the last month, such as chasing Le Le away. The panda care team is working hard to ensure a smooth separation of both pandas, including the implementation of a time sharing programme for public viewing. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Le Le is there, and Jia Jia is present from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Le Le has already had two vaccinations (pictured above getting vaccine), and he will undergo extensive health exams during his quarantine period. A bespoke crate is being built for his travel to China, and the care team is using Positive Reinforcement Training to willingly acclimatise Le Le to the crate. This regular training ensures that on the day of his departure, he will have a stress-free transfer.
Mandai Wildlife Group, in collaboration with Singapore Airlines, is methodically organising the logistics to ensure Le Le's comfort during his travel on the national carrier. Le Le's departure is not just a fond farewell, but also a crucial step forward in the continuous conservation and protection of the Giant Panda species.
