  • Rainbow Connection II Illuminates the Malay Heritage Centre With a Mesmerising Glow of Colours and Light

Rainbows have long been held as symbols of hope, luck and new beginnings for many cultures, yet they are rare and elusive sights in the sky. From now till 29 May, don’t miss the chance to experience the beauty of a rainbow that will linger for far longer at the Malay Heritage Centre’s (MHC) Rainbow Connection II.

Co-created by local artist Lee Yun Qin and underserved communities, the outdoor installation comprises a total of 500 suspended solar light modules made from upcycled cookie containers and solar lights. While individually unique, the modules come together to form a fantastical sight when lit up at night, scattering prismatic projections all around. As the units gently rotate and sway in the wind, the installation seemingly comes alive through the dynamic play of shadows, lights and colours.

Rainbow Connection II

Rainbow Connection II’s light units are designed and individually painted by beneficiaries from social service agency Brighton Connection based on two themes: “In the Woods” and “In the Deep”. Uniting the community through creativity and art, the art piece is a portrayal of the social fabric that holds individuals together, painting a picture of solidarity amidst diversity. The installation encircles the MHC fountain with light and will travel to MacPherson estate and Somerset Youth Park later this year.

Mr Alvn Tan, Deputy Chief Executive (Policy & Community), National Heritage Board (NHB), said: “The installation is part of NHB’s and MHC’s ongoing accessibility efforts to strengthen community connections by working with local artists to engage underserved communities, and provide public spaces for artists and communities to showcase their works.
