The 24 km-long Rail Corridor spans north to south of Singapore. It threads through diverse landscapes such as housing, business, industrial, and recreational areas, and key landmarks that are rich in nature and heritage.
There is planned development for the entire 24 km stretch but this will happen in stages and over the next few years through to 2017. That being said, this is a delightful outing for both expats, locals and travellers alike. It ticks all the boxes. Health, wellbeing, outdoor activity and fitness.

On 24 May 2010, Singapore and Malaysia agreed on the issue of the future of the Malayan Railway Land in Singapore. Malaysia moved the KTMB station from the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station to the Woodlands Train Checkpoint in early 2011 which meant that all the railway land would be available to the Singapore government for development.
On 1 July 2011, Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) announced that it would comprehensively review and chart the development plans for the former railway lands and the surrounding areas. As part of its review, the URA studied the possibility of marrying development and greenery, such as applying innovative strategies to maintain a continuous green link along the rail corridor without affecting the development potential of the lands.
The four key areas along The Green Corridor in development are as follows:
(i) Buona Vista (near one-north) Located next to the Buona Vista MRT interchange station and is easily accessible by the public. Formerly the site of the Tanglin Halt Railway Station.
(ii) Bukit Timah Railway Station area, this is the green heart of the Rail Corridor. This midway point of the Corridor is a natural setting anchored by the conserved Bukit Timah Railway Station.
(iii) Former Bukit Timah Fire Station. The former Bukit Timah Fire Station and quarters will become a new gateway into the Rail Corridor. A new pedestrian link will be provided from the Fire Station site directly into the Rail Corridor where visitors will explore the parks fringing the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve such as Dairy Farm Nature Park and Bukit Batok Nature Park.
(iv) Kranji (opposite Kranji MRT Station) This is the northern gateway into the Rail Corridor. Located across from the Kranji MRT station, it is highly accessible as a major gathering place for the community to hold events and start the journey south towards the city. Key landmarks in the area include the Singapore Turf Club, Kranji War Memorial, and Mandai Mangroves.
