The American Club, Singapore's premiere members-only social Club, unveiled a fully revamped clubhouse in conjunction with the Club’s celebration of its 74th anniversary. Located in the heart of Orchard area, along Claymore Hill, the refurbished 120,000 square-foot clubhouse provides a modern and comfortable club that will meet the needs of its Members’ for the next 30 years.
The S$65 million redevelopment project, which took place over four years, reinforces The American Club’s relationship with Singapore. The unveiling of The American Club’s refurbished clubhouse is very timely, given that the Club is also celebrating its 74th Anniversary on September 14, 2022 The American Club has come a long way since its inception in 1948.
The American Club is a space where Americans, Singaporeans and the international community can congregate, exchange ideas and socialize, where families can proudly call their home away from home.
With the revamped clubhouse, Members can expect a dedicated children’s facility that spans across four floors, a brand-new retail concept carrying gourmet products such as meat, cheese and wine, as well as refreshed casual and fine-dining options, among other facility and service offering upgrades.
At over 8,000 square feet, The Quad is The American Club’s new and improved dedicated youth facility that spans four floors – The Quad Studios at Basement 3, The Bowling Alley at Basement 2, The Quad at Basement 1 and The Quad Poolside at Level 1.
Key highlights include a vertical climbing wall known as the Wallholla, a tree house for the young ones, retro arcade games, new state-of-the-art gaming computers and a tinkering wall to stimulate the minds of even the youngest Members through a unique and enjoyable audio, visual and sensory experience.
The revamped clubhouse introduces The Gourmet Pantry, a new 2,000 square-foot retail concept carrying gourmet products such as meat, cheese, wine, tableware and festive gifts. The Gourmet Pantry carries an expansive range of over 450 labels of wines from all over the world. It also carries a curation of the Club’s own gourmet products, such as Black Kurobuta Pork Charsiew, Smoked Brisket, XO Sauce, Smoky Chipotle Salsa and many more.
Dining experience at the new clubhouse also comes enhanced, where once segregated rooms offering Asian and Western dishes are now harmoniously united as The 2nd Floor, a fine-dining establishment that offers exquisite East-meets-West fusion cuisine.
The 2nd Floor’s menu combines the best of both worlds, featuring authentic Asian flavors and an interpretation of the Modern American Steakhouse, through unique contemporary presentations. The restaurant attained the Excellent Dining Venue award at the Global Gourmet 2020 Chef par Excellence Culinary Competition.
For a more casual dining option, Tradewinds, previously known as Eagle’s Nest, is the Club’s all-day casual dining restaurant with its signature buffet events and international menu offering. Named after the prevailing surface winds that helped establish trade routes across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, the menu selection at Tradewinds features an international selection with nuances of flavors from America, bringing the world’s cuisines to the tables of The American Club.
Fitted with new cardio and weights equipment, the Club’s Gym allows Members a more conducive environment to work towards their fitness goals. A team of diverse and qualified personal trainers are on hand to support gym goers in their fitness journey.
The purposefully upgraded clubhouse also promises to better cater to a vibrant and diverse community of both Members and employees. The new building features larger spaces with a strategic layout to offer a wider range of Member services, as well as to increase service levels and comfort. This hardware upgrade is in parallel with the Club’s digital transformation from POS, website, member portal and app upgrades. The approach to redevelopment includes the Club’s greatest asset – its employees.
Investing and caring for their people is core to the Club’s culture. By upgrading the Human Resources (HR) information system to a new mobile-friendly system, the Club’s Team Members can perform HR tasks and receive communication from anytime, anywhere. Additionally, Team Members can upgrade their skills and knowledge through the Club’s new e-Training platform that allows the flexibility of completing training sessions at their convenience.
The holistic wellbeing of the Club’s Team Members is also of paramount importance. The Club has rolled out the pilot test of iSabel, an app which provides therapy sessions, video exercises and helpful information on health and wellness.
The American Club also aims to be a positive contributor to Singapore’s workforce as an employer that strives to develop the local talent pool. In championing a fair, diverse and inclusive workplace, the Club partnered with the Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN) to provide support, training and job placement opportunities for APSN’s students and trainees.
In unwavering support of the Singapore government’s workforce initiatives, the Club has recently implemented a higher internal retirement and re-employment age of 65 and 70 respectively, ahead of legislative schedule. The Club is also a participant of the Senior Worker Early Adopter Grant (SWEAG) and the Part Time Re-employment Grant (PTRG), and the adopter of the Tripartite Standard on Age-friendly Workplace Practices (TS-AWP).
