Calisthenics originates from ancient Greek terms, kalós (καλός) and sthénos (σθένος) bringing the meaning of ‘beauty’ and ‘strength’ into play. It is the art of utilising one’s body weight and the qualities of inertia to develop one’s physique.
Calisthenics represents the best form of functional fitness primarily because it can be done anywhere and anytime with minimal equipment needed. Beginners can perform the more basic exercises such as pull ups, push ups, dips and squats while the advanced stages include moves like handstands, front and back levers and planches. Advancing in these exercises allow one to master the movement of his/her own body and progress into more creative and fun moves.
