White Shades, known for its inventive approach to cocktails, is happy to announce the reopening of its Level 1 location, which has been transformed into a refuge for highball enthusiasts. Previously a charming confectionery shop serving ice cream and low-alcohol tea drinks, the bottom level has been transformed into a sophisticated urban enclave ideal for highball cocktail enthusiasts. This renovation coincides with the launch of a new bar-hopping experience that takes clients on a sensory journey around all floors of the establishment.
White Shades was founded by Bai JiaWei, who was recently named to Prestige's 2024 40 Under 40 list. It is located on Boon Tat Street, in the heart of Singapore's Central Business District. The location promises a multi-sensory experience of cocktail culture that combines traditional craftsmanship and current innovation.
The refurbished Level 1 greets guests with a beautiful Japanese-inspired speakeasy atmosphere. The pastel tones are gone, replaced by a darker entrance with bright neon signage and lit backsplashes. Inside, a revolving disco ball sparkles overhead, and the latest Japanese beats fill the air, creating a lively environment. Eye-catching posters and wallpaper feature images of Kakubin highballs and White Shades' enticing wings, contributing to the dynamic atmosphere.
The new location, inspired by the rich legacy of Japanese mixology, features an unparalleled assortment of highball drinks. Japanese Kaku Highballs are offered in five different styles: Classic, Yuzu, Umeshu, Genmaicha, and Shiso. These highballs, both delicate and complicated, are suitable for all occasions. A Kaku Highball costs S$10++ during the bar's Happy Hour from 4pm to 6pm, S$12++ between 6pm and 8pm and S$14++ until midnight.
White Shades' Signature Highballs, created by the professional team, offer a symphony of flavours. The PawPaw Plum highball combines botanical aromas from gin with sour plum and soursop to create a lively and delicious drink. Spear The Melon is a crisp and delicious cocktail made with rum, spearmint, watermelon, and a chilled watermelon garnish. Mango Agogo combines vodka and housemade mango yoghurt with zesty grapefruit for a vibrant, citrusy drink.
The LycheeOo-Hi blends whisky with the sweet flavours of lychee oolong tea, while the Smoky Inferno combines smoky tequila with lapsang souchong, pineapple, and honey to create an earthy and strong highball. These trademark beverages are available for S$16++ from 4pm to 6pm, S$18++ from 6pm to 8pm, and S$20++ until midnight.
The menu also features a variety of delicious and zesty highballs, like the floral St. Germain Highball, the fruity Calvados Tonic, and the aromatic Campari Highball. Each provides an ideal balance of alcohol or liqueur and soda effervescence. These are priced at S$11++ during Happy Hour from 4pm to 6pm, S$13++ from 6pm to 8pm, and S$15++ to midnight.
Visitors will also notice a new food menu with izakaya-style mini plates, which are ideal for mixing with their highball cocktails. To enhance the experience, White Shades has created a one-of-a-kind bar-hopping excursion known as Hop through the Shades. For S$100 Nett, guests can visit all three floors of the bar—Level 1, Rooftop, and Level 2—and enjoy a drink at each one. The evening concludes at White Shades' special, invite-only bar, where Bai JiaWei personally makes a custom cocktail for each visitor. This special experience requires advanced reservations.
White Shades is located on 25 Boon Tat Street. For bookings, please call +65 8575 8578 or book online. The bar's hours vary by level: Level 1 Highball Bar from 4pm to 12am, Level 2 Cocktail Bar from 6pm to 12am, and the Rooftop Bar from 5pm to 12am, Monday through Saturday.
