Tucked away on the second floor of Seletar’s iconic The Summerhouse is the freshly updated Au Balcon. Previously known as the French Dining Room, Au Balcon, which translates to ‘on the balcony’, represents a new era for the beloved space.
Au Balcon embodies a renewed focus on classic French flavours with a twist, a dedication to quality produce and an offer of warm personable service.
Au Balcon’s extensively updated dinner menu offers a choice of a la carte or communal style service. Guests can look forward to elevated starters such as the Nicoise Salad which features a smoky, tender grilled octopus leg on a bed of fresh butterhead lettuce, sweet cherry tomatoes, haricot verts, olives, fingerling potatoes and local Kelong-farmed prawns; the Seared Atlantic Scallops, perfectly golden and served on on a swath of smooth, vibrant romesco sauce, topped with sweet caper raisins and coriander cres, fresh from The Summerhouse’s edible garden; and the deceptively simple Florentine 65°C Organic Egg, where a farm fresh egg sits on a bed of garlic sauteed spinach, cauliflower puree and finished with a flourish of fresh truffle shavings, pecorino and truffle vinaigrette.
A generous range of mains showcase hearty proteins, like the Inka Grilled Iberico Pluma—beautifully seared and paired with a sweet-sour apple celeriac puree, moreish garlic brussels sprouts and a sprinkle of toasted almonds—offering a perfectly layered bite.
Purists can opt for the charcoal-grilled Wagyu Striploin, a richly marbled cut that melts in your mouth, served with a buttery, smoked potato puree and crispy broccolini, or the sustainably sourced Seared Kuhlbarra Barramundi with creamy polenta, roasted heirloom carrots, and a deeply savoury crustacean reduction that ties all the components together.
Timeless French sweets are available to finish off the meal, like the luscious Citrus Creme Brulee, an updated take with the addition of orange zest in the vanilla custard, and topped with fresh berries; or the quintessential Paris Brest, which features a rich, nutty praline diplomat, piped between two crisp, airy rings of choux pastry, and finished with a light dusting of icing sugar. Both desserts are served with housemade ice cream.
After dining at Au Balcon, explore the whimsical gardens at The Summerhouse that recently went through a S$300,000 overhaul, including upgraded Garden Domes that are a perfect vantage point to enjoy the lush verdancy and florals. The Summerhouse is perfect for charming soirées, wedding parties and outdoor birthday parties alike.
Au Balcon at The Summerhouse’s new dinner menu is available daily except Tuesdays from 1 February, alongside a refreshed brunch menu that is served on the weekend.
