Hyperspecialization pays off only when the quality of what is on offer is outstanding. That is what lies behind the success of Boeuf, a meat-forward restaurant in Telok Ayer. Bright blue walls with a telltale bust of a bull above the door promise an experience that goes beyond just another steak restaurant.

The core of Boeuf lies in the high-quality meat it sources from Australia, Argentina and elsewhere. Unlike what its name may lead you to believe, there is more than beef on the menu. You can enjoy a delicious chicken roulade, grilled aubergine or a burratina with a deep ruby glass of wine too. But yes, the menu focuses on beef and its many cuts, served with an array of sauces such as a creamy mushroom sauce or an intense blue cheese sauce.

Walking in, I noticed that the restaurant is spread over two levels. The ground level houses the main restaurant with the first floor being a private space perfect for parties and gatherings. Ushered by friendly staff, I found myself relaxing instantly with their banter, despite being a solo diner. The staff at Boeuf is knowledgeable yet discreet, available to offer advice whenever you may wish. The chef himself can be seen in the dining room, often chatting with guests or serving them a course or two.

I flipped through Boeuf’s recently revamped menu and was immediately drawn to the Steak Au Poivre sharing set, which I must say was a hearty portion appropriate for 3 diners. A lovely mix of three different varietals and cuts of beef, it was accompanied by a decadent duo peppercorn sauce that had me going for double dips. Priced at $99, the set included Argentinian Ribeye MB2, Australian Short Rib MB2, and Australian Sirloin MB2. Roasted vegetables, especially the roasted garlic, made a great side act but the main star was undoubtedly the meat.

The short ribs were my favourite, with meat almost falling off the bone. Braised before grilling, it retained its juiciness even when served. The meats were all rubbed with salt and pepper before grilling, giving them a spicy coating that helped amplify the flavour of the meat itself. A hint of rosemary added woodsy aromas. The simplicity of what was on offer did not go unnoticed. Often restaurants mask good produce with complicated cooking techniques and sauces. Here, the hero was the meat and it was allowed to sing loud and clear.

If you want a little indulgence, the set can be supplemented and upgraded with Iwate F1 Wagyu Sirloin (+$39) and Miyazaki A5 Wagyu Sirloin (+$79). But, hurry. The sharing sets are only available for a limited time from 1 August to 30 September 2023, for lunch and dinner.

As part of National Day celebrations, Boeuf has also announced a fantastic promotion wherein you can score an appetizing Cheese and Charcuterie box for free when you buy a bottle of wine. Enjoy this in the restaurant or take it home to enjoy with friends, this is one sweet deal. Called the ‘Wine with Boeuf’ program, this free Cheese & Charcuterie Box is worth $58++, an ode to Singapore’s 58th National Day. The promotion is valid all month until the end of August 2023.
