A product of these extraordinary times, the inventive IDS Masktox™ Program rejuvenates the upper half of your face – the part that is constantly visible to the world during these mask-wearing pandemic-stricken months – to help you put forward your best face every day. The Masktox™ trademark is held internationally by IDS Clinic.
So, what is Masktox™? It is a portmanteau of “Mask” and “Botox”. This is a upper face rejuvenation with the use of Botox. Botox is a neurotoxin that got its first FDA approval for treating upper facial muscles in the 1990s and its aesthetic indications have expanded greatly since then. It works as a muscle relaxant by blocking the release of chemical signals from the nerve to the muscle, thereby making muscles unable to contract.
This proprietary Botox protocol from IDS is specially curated for patients that are more conscious of the parts of their face which are visible with face masks on, and seeking to improve and enhance this area.
The MaskTox™ program smoothens fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead, frown lines in between the brows, and crow’s feet around the eye area to enhance and smoothen the texture of skin.
This is not a complete wrinkle removal procedure for deep wrinkles but rather a preventive-ageing program to reduce fine lines and smoothen skin texture. It is also part of the IDS MicroBotox Rejuvenation Program, which splits the treatment areas into 3 parts – the upper face, the mid-face, and the lower face and neck area.
This procedure starts with a consultation with an IDS doctor to determine the treatment areas as well as the right dosage and treatment method in IDS’s proprietary protocol.
After consultation, the patient’s face is cleansed before the Botox injections are administered. The treatment takes about 15 minutes. Results will take a few days to take effect and will last for up to four to six months. A review is usually done two weeks after the first injection and adjustments are made if required. There is no downtime, making this a perfect lunchtime treatment. As this is not a one-time fix, repeated treatments two to three times a year are recommended.
Botulinum toxin injections are generally well tolerated with very few known side effects. Common side effects like bruising, erythema (reddening of the skin) and slight pain and swelling at the injection site may be experienced but are transient. Headaches can also occur but this is rare and it usually goes away in 24 to 48 hours.
Depending on where the Botox is injected, eyebrow or eyelid drooping, drooping of the corner of the mouth, or inability to use a straw may be experienced. Patients are usually advised to refrain from rubbing the treated area and avoid lying down for three to four hours after injection.
Rarer side effects include local edema, mild nausea, numbness, temporary weakness or paralysis of nearby muscles, weakness of the lower eyelid or lateral rectus (a muscle controlling eye movement), dysphagia (trouble swallowing), diplopia (double vision), dry mouth, rashes or hives and wheezing.
IDS Clinic doctors are qualified and well trained to recommend and administer the treatment after a comprehensive medical assessment.
Patients taking aspirin or oral anticoagulants for their heart problems or stroke are allowed to do their Botox treatment without stopping their medication. Extra care is taken to do longer compressions and icing the areas to prevent bruising.
Follow the post-injection instructions carefully and report any persistent side effects (if any) as soon as possible.
