The Fullerton Spa is a hidden oasis just down a level from the pool complex at Fullerton Hotel Singapore. Awarded Winner of Luxury Business Spa Asia in 2019 by World Luxury Spa Awards, this is true luxury inner city spa and it’s the little details that make this experience standout.

The Fullerton Spa also offers the Men’s Deep Cleansing Facial (60 minutes, S$200++) tailored to one’s unique skincare needs, as well as a selection of Express Treatments (up to 30 minutes, from S$90++), ideal for time-strapped individuals or those seeking a quick refresh in between appointments.

Expat Choice reporter Rebecca Assice trialled The Asian Heritage Signature (90 minutes, S$260++), consisting of a stress-relieving scalp massage and deep muscle massage. The following is her relection on the experience.

On arrival, I am served an eco-friendly carton of Alkaline Water to ensure I am sufficiently hydrated pre-treatment. My therapist then discusses the type of massage I want (I chose Intensive Muscle Release) and explains the different types of oils on offer. The oil I selected was an exotic combination of rosemary (easing pain and tension), lavender (relaxation), ginger (anti-inflammatory) and pepper (toxin reducing) – not a combination I had come across before but it sounded incredible and I was eager to try it.

Not passing a single soul, we move down to the therapy room and I get changed for the treatment. The treatment begins with the all-important and indulgent foot cleanse, the warm soothing water inducing immediate relaxation, allowing my mind to unwind. I then move onto the welcoming massage table, firm but comfortable and adorned with thick, luxurious towels. It has the added special touch of being heated (a must for me as I am too often cold in treatment rooms) and it’s not long before I am in state of pure bliss.

My therapist, who has been working there for six years, adeptly and expertly works her way around my body using Swedish and cross muscle fibre techniques, along with stretching and draining that effectively removes any pain and tension. It is not often I fall asleep during a deep tissue massage, but somehow I find myself dozing off – the combination of techniques, oils and pressure, along with the calming ambience is providing the ultimate relaxation experience.

When the treatment comes to an end, I feel restored, regenerated and deeply relaxed. I indulge a little further by using the sauna and steam room facilities to finish this luxurious, pampering afternoon. An all-important opportunity to get some “me time” away from the stresses of family, work and life in general.

A final point to note, I found the treatments here extremely well-priced given the quality on offer, with 60 minute treatments under $200 and many express treatments under $100, it is definitely 5 star spa luxury at an appealing price point.

Guests can look forward to a comprehensive range of restorative treatments at The Fullerton Spa, including the Men’s Deep Cleansing Facial (60 minutes, S$200++) tailored to one’s unique skincare needs, as well as a selection of Express Treatments (up to 30 minutes, from S$90++), ideal for time-strapped individuals or those seeking a quick refresh in between appointments. The Asian Heritage Signature (90 minutes, S$260++), consisting of a stress-relieving scalp massage and deep muscle massage, as well as The Fullerton Signature Facial (60 minutes or 90 minutes, from S$220++), an innovative treatment that rapidly transforms the visible health of one’s skin.

For the ultimate indulgence, the Hero Treatment (90 minutes, S$320++) takes one on a highly personalised wellness journey that combines a targeted back, face and scalp massage with the purest aromatherapy oils – delivering an end-result of complete relaxation and radiance.

Sensory Fantastic at the Fullerton Spa

I want to share a special experience that was enjoyable beyond my expectations.  On the surface, a visit to a spa for a body treatment might not seem remarkable.  They are available in abundance here in the Lion City.  Yet, since all of the precautions were instituted last March, I have not visited any such establishment.  Feeling like some pampering was long overdue, I eagerly reserved a treatment from the Fullerton Spa’s newly revamped Spa Menu.  It called to me for some important “me time.”

There are wonderful treatments to select from on the menu.  Some cater specifically to men or women, but many are for you to select based upon preference and need.  I chose to have the Asian Heritage Signature, which includes a stress-relieving scalp massage followed by a deep muscle massage.  Upon arrival, I was received and introduced to my therapist who guided me to a open, individual booth.  There, she requested I fill out an intake form and retreated to collect items for me.

By the time I finished the brief information form and health questionnaire, my professional therapist returned with a tray.  She carefully described the components of my selected treatment and the products that are intended to be employed.  At first, I was not too sure about the Hair Mud for the scalp massage.  She patiently described the purpose and general outcomes of using the mud in the treatment, while also giving me full choice to request the method without the product or to skip any part of the planned treatment to my preference.

I personally love having choice with bodywork and I was assured that I could also change my preferences mid-session, if required.  She hit all the good notes for a harmonious partnership for client and therapist, so I decided to trust the process and my guide.  Boy, was I very happy with that stroke of genius.

Upon being escorted to a private suite, I changed and prepared for the session.  My therapist returned an began the treatment.  In summary, it was wonderful and everything I needed to destress and re-energized.  I am happy to break it down for your own scrutiny.

Living in Asia for over thirty years and being a big fan of the benefits of great body work, I am particular and some might say, critical of the kind of treatment I am subject to in spas.  I can often tell the confidence (or lack of confidence), level of training and experience on offer at any given establishment.  This therapist knew her stuff, which immediately allowed me to relax and enjoy.

Sensitive to my initial hesitation for the scalp massage with hair-mud, my therapist was kind enough to check if I still wanted to proceed.  I agreed and she began a wonderful process that was perfect in every way.  Appropriate pressure, progressive methods with a distinct patter of familiarity and a clear sensitivity to how I was receiving the process.  It was bliss.

When that was complete, I was requested to roll over to face down and my therapist began to work on the back of my body.  This part of the treatment was most impressive.  Many times, a massage therapist or bodyworker will speak through much of the process to check on pressure, and general enjoyment.   With my therapist who is obviously experienced and well-trained, she used her felt-sense to my response to the treatment and adjusted, while only occasionally verifying when adjusting position.   Lucky for me, as this let me fully engage in the treatment and my body’s  response to it.

This procession of treatment with a highly skilled and experienced therapist left me with a sensation of floatation.  Time suspended and although present for each part of the session, I had no sense of urgency.  The pressure, methodology all felt well-matched for 90 minutes of complete separation from the tensions of the day and my private treatment at the hands of a skilled professional.

When complete, I was gracefully left to change for my return to the world.  I noticed that the treatment itself was indeed 90 minutes.  The check-in and changing time were not within that 90 minute period.  I can tell you that I was so very pleased with this minor detail.  So often the timing of a spa visit is measured for shoes at reception to the boot at the door.  Not at all the case here, so budget your timing appropriately for the full “spoil” treatment.  After preparing for my return to the world, I was offered a quite pause in the ante room between my private suite and the outside world.  Here I was encouraged to drink plenty of water and was supplied by a sustainable container of alkaline water to get me started.

I have been to spas that feel fancy and elegant and others that were functional and bland.  I have had the wonderful and the awful of experiences.  The Fullerton Spa gives you the opportunity to divorce yourself from the outside world and retreat to the competent and highly skilled service professionals whose aim is to leave you better than when you arrived.  This is service and this will make your visit worthy of your time.
