From the home to the heartlands, The Fat Kid Bakery, an online confectionery best known for its homemade patisseries like sourdough bomboloni and chocolate brownies, has opened its first brick-and-mortar outlet at Ang Mo Kio.
Fans can now satiate their sugary cravings and visit the physical store to collect their pre-orders, or takeaway a limited range of freshly baked treats. The Fat Kid Bakery was founded in 2020 by 24-year-old self-taught baker, Ariel Tang, who started her baking journey ten years ago when she made her now-signature chocolate brownies for friends and family.

The very act of feeding her loved ones with life’s simplest pleasures was and continues to be, a source of fulfilment for the budding baker, and so she embarked on a journey to expand her knowledge in pastry and bread making. Since then, Ariel has grown her repertoire of beloved signature bakes, which ranges from sourdough breads to croissants, eclairs and flavoured bomboloni.

While The Fat Kid Bakery's brick-and-mortar outlet will primarily serve as a collection point for customers who pre-order on the website, a daily limited number of baked goods will also be available for in-store purchase.

Choose from the bakery’s list of all-time favourites, like the Triple Chocolate Brownies ($15 per bottle, $30 per big box), and Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies ($12 per bag). Also on the menu are the Eclairs (from $25 for box of 10 to $40 for box of 20), filled with a choice of Chocolate, Calamansi Meringue or Vanilla cream.

Perhaps the most recognisable of all are the Sourdough Bombos (from $3.50 to $5 each), The Fat Kid Bakery's take on the Italian filled doughnut, which made waves online last year when it first launched. With the use of her sourdough starter which has been cultivated for over 2 years, the bombos go through a long fermentation process of 72 hours for optimal flavour development and a tall soft crumb. Available in boxes of four, eight, 10 and 12, the Bomboloni come in a variety of beloved flavours, like Chocolate, Roasted Oolong, Mango and Blueberry Cheesecake.
New to The Fat Kid Bakery is a selection of homemade breads that bread lovers would be wise not to miss, ranging from Sourdough Loaf ($12), Milk Loaf ($8) and French Butter Croissants ($4 for plain, $4.50 for chocolate). All pre-orders have to be made minimum three days in advance.
