This year the Italian Film Festival in Singapore (IFF 2022) celebrates its twentieth edition, featuring a top selection from the latest successes of Italian cinema.

A wide array of movies – action, noir, drama, comedy, horror – by Italy’s most famous masters, from the Golden Globe winner Giuseppe Tornatore to the acclaimed Sergio Castellitto, Mario Martone, Paolo Genovese, including the master of Italian horror Dario Argento, alongside cutting edge directors like Manetti Bros (who will be in Singapore for the occasion), Jonas Carpignano, and Giuseppe Bonito.

Presented by the Embassy of Italy in Singapore, in partnership with The Projector and in collaboration with the Singapore Film Society and the Asian Film Festival of Rome, it will be hosted for the first time at the Cathay Cineplex and will feature 13 award-winning Italian films - from 14th to 25th September (all with English subtitles).

The central movie theatre at Dhoby Ghaut has been taken over as a pop-up cinema venue by The Projector, starring the IFF 2022 as its very first national festival.

For the first time since many years and after the pandemic, the initiative will see the presence in Singapore of directors and screenwriters such as the Manetti Bros (alias Marco and Antonio Manetti) with the opening movie “Diabolik”, a gripping storyline starring the iconic criminal character created in the 60s by Angela and Luciana Giussani, who revolutionized the world of Italian comics, selling over 150 millions copies in the last 50 years.

Producers Gabriele Costa and Gianni Russo of Piano B will also be visiting Singapore for the Festival, to showcase the splendid documentary “Ennio” on Ennio Morricone, directed by Giuseppe Tornatore, who retraces life and works of the legendary composer: from his debut with Sergio Leone (the Spaghetti western creator) to Quentin Tarantino’s Oscar-winning “The Hateful Eight”.

Diabolik

The screenings of “Diabolik” and “Ennio” will be followed by Q&A sessions, moderated by the Chairman of the Singapore Film Society, Mr. Kenneth Tan.

The Singapore Film Society, alongside Mr. Antonio Termenini, Director of the Asian Film Festival in Rome and of the Cineforum Robert Bresson (who organize film festivals also in other Asian countries through the Project “Italy and the Far East”) will also arrange some film school campus dialogues at the Ngee Ann Polytechnic, School of Film & Media Studies and Puttnam School of Film and Animation (in Lasalle's Faculty of Fine Arts, Media & Creative Industries) involving directors Manetti Bros and Piano B producers film, and some industry networking events with local cinema representatives. The aim is to explore possible collaborations and co-productions.

The Italian Film Festival is supported by the Directorate General for Cinema and Audio-visual of the Italian Ministry of Culture which is committed to the promotion of cultural and cinematographic activities, and by Triumph Singapore, branch of Triumph Group International - an internationally established holding company in the field of institutional, corporate and congress events and digital marketing – that would like to bring to the cosmopolitan city-state its know-how, thirty years of experience and Italian passion that has distinguished the company since 1986.

The opening night on September 14th (by invitation) will see the presence of Gio’ Osteria with his treats, San Pellergino and Campari because it takes place during the international Negroni Week, which celebrates not only the iconic Italian bittersweet cocktail but also #1 bestselling classic cocktail in the world. The classic Negroni will be available throughout the Italian Film Festival in Singapore (IFF 2022) at the Cathay Cineplex.

In conjunction with the Italia Film Festival, the pianist Corinna Chang will present and launch her CD “My Favourite Ennio Morricone”, as a tribute to the Italian artist. On this occasion she will perform at a concert at Bechstein World (Singapore Conference Hall) on September, 19 at 7 pm (for reservations [email protected] or call Klassique Musik 94271828).

The Italian Film Festival is one of a series of important events featuring Italy during the month of September. It will be an opportunity for getting to know Italian excellence in many fields such as Italian food & wines (at FHA and ProWine with 60 Italian companies), design (with the fair FIND and the exhibition SUBSTANCE - Italian Green Design Innovation organised by the Embassy of Italy at the Singapore Design Centre, as part of the programme partners of the Singapore Design Week), jewellery with more than 70s Italian companies exhibiting at the Jewellery & Gem World, publishers and artists at the Singapore International Photography Festival and other events during the Formula one.
