  • Weekend Bazaar Localised Is Back at the Refectory

The Refectory welcomes Localised 2nd Edition after an overwhelming response from locals and expatriates alike at its debut in February. Back by popular demand, the seasonal event is set to be an essential platform for local brands to put their best foot forward to visitors over 9,000 square feet of space.

For one weekend only, the food & beverage space is transformed into a bustling two-day indoor market showcasing 40 vendors from 30 April-1 May, 10am-8pm. Make a date with The Refectory, located in the central region of Singapore, and get acquainted with quality brands face-to-face such as Copper Garden, My Nonna's, Natsuki’s Garden, SG Brisket Kitchen and a very special collaboration with Nam Heong Ipoh.

Copper Garden specializes in event floristry, and that means you’re in safe hands when you leave the work to these experts. Started by Wedding Ang, who left her full-time job in the events industry to create her own storytelling with nature's bountiful harvest of flowers, Meta (formerly Facebook) counts as one of their clients.

The sustainable online flower business donates excess blooms to partnering hospitals and hospices to share some love and much needed cheer. Create your own bouquet from start to finish with help from expert hands onsite

My Nonna’s may sound like an unassuming casual eatery serving up an Italian grandma’s home-cooked meals. Unbeknownst to many, this casual eatery is really a social enterprise that gives meaningful employment to special needs persons and the elderly using the place-and-train program.

The menu offerings are not limited to just Italian-style dishes but serve tasty Asian fare including blue pea rice and Thai curry chicken. Here’s a fun tidbit: My Nonna’s eye-catching logo was hand-drawn by Aldie, an intellectually disabled young man who was previously attached to Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore. Meet with Geraldine Tan, founder & CEO, for a warm chat, or signup for a cookie-making class onsite conducted by differently abled people. No time for a class? Buy some baked cookies to support the local enterprise.

Benjamin Tan aka Farmer Ben founded Natsuki’s Garden which grows specialty produce not typically grown in Singapore. Pushing the balcony growing movement in Singapore quite single-handedly, customers can pre-order seedlings and subscribe to their Facebook page for a free guide to growing vegetables and herbs for beginners.

The Singapore-based greenhouse also supplies fresh produce to restaurants since 2019. Visitors will get a chance to bring home some of these natural produce from Japan, France and America which will be on sale too.

Smoking may seem primitive to some, but for Jayce Ho keeping it simple by going back to basics may be the best way to cook and flavour meats. The founder of SG Brisket Kitchen shuns electricity for good old-fashioned fire using wood and charcoal only. She takes USDA beef briskets and pork rumps and smokes them “low & slow” for hours.

Bite into the savoury goodness of these juicy cuts that are free of the nasties–no additives, chemicals and MSG. Taste her labour of love firsthand-smoked brisket, smoked pulled pork and umami mashed potatoes will be sold onsite.

Spreading the love for heritage food from Ipoh, Malaysia to the rest of the world was always Andy Goh Chieng Mun’s late grandfather’s dream, and lifelong desire which he is realizing today. The 60-year-old Nam Heong Ipoh is now in Singapore and will not only be part of the bi-monthly weekend event; They will set up shop for three months at The Refectory from the month of May. Guests can look forward to authentic Ipoh specialties such as custard egg tart at reasonable prices.

The Refectory - Localised - The Botanist Feb 2022

Localised 2nd edition brings together a majority of newcomers to the scene, including some home-based businesses, and favourites from the debut launch this month. Glean Cafe will be serving snacks from $10 and BRDL (pronounced as ‘Braddell’) will present a Botanist cart with gin, Rémy Martin and Bacardì cocktails on the menu at $16 each, all day and all night. Come early with the fam bam and friends for a fantastic headstart to the long Labour Day weekend.

Visitors must follow all prevailing Safe Management Measures (SMMs), including checking in with TraceTogetherapp, wearing a mask indoors unless eating or drinking, and keeping a 1-metre safe distance between groups. A safe entry ambassador at each entry point will be monitoring and tracking visitor flow.
