A family and dog friendly beer garden set in a tranquil oasis surrounded by verdant views. I am quite embarrassed to say that I have been in Singapore for nearly 10 years and did not know this venue existed.
As it turns out, many of my friends - and the taxi driver that drove me to RedDot BrewHouse - have been several times. So, it is obviously a local experience worth having.
A family-owned business, RedDot BrewHouse sits up at Dempsey in a heritage row dating back to 1846 housing Samy's Curry and Long Beach Seafood restaurant.
Access it from the carpark right by Huber's at the Holland Road entrance.
I came to RedDot BrewHouse (RDB) for lunch with friends. I have also heard it is great a night with all the sparking lights adding to the enchanting atmosphere. The restaurant is up a few stairs, so parents with prams and those who are other-abled, please take note.
You will be warmly welcomed into the heritage BrewHouse, a large interior fitted out with its own micro brewery, warm wooden furniture, over head fans and lots of plants. There are three seating zones to choose from, including a large covered beer garden that lets in plenty of light. In fact, while we were there, RDB was setting up for a wedding. When restrictions end, this would make a great venue for a networking event, movie night or to see a band. So keep it in mind!
We enjoyed a range of home-brewed beers. RDB has a tasting sample of their beers to help you decide which one best suits your palette before committing to your pints of choice. There is also a fully stocked bar with wines, ciders and spirits. In terms of food, RDB is open for brunch, lunch all the way through to dinner. On Sundays, the team will even entertain children with cooking classes on site to give parents some well-earned peace.
The menu is varied and offers something for everyone - from the signature fagra (Szechuan pepper) chicken wings, chicken satay, hearty brunches, big burgers, pastas and salads. There is also a BBQ grill on site, serving up RDB’s famous barbecued squid as well as succulent steaks and share platters. Portions are large and the prices are reasonable, ranging from $25-$35 for most mains.
As an Australian of British parentage, I have grown up with beer garden culture since I was very young. RedDot BrewHouse offers a satisfying mix of relaxation, cold beers and hearty food for family groups and groups of friends. Both day and night. RedDot BrewHouse gave me that nostalgic experience that makes me want to come back with my children and with my friends.
With restrictions in place, I am always on the lookout for eating experiences that makes me feel like I am in Singapore, but not in Singapore. Nestled among the trees at Dempsey, RedDot BrewHouse is a comforting cocoon that momentarily transports you elsewhere. I will be back, and encourage you to check it out as well.
