The Goodman Open House at Goodman Arts Centre, organised by Arts House Limited (AHL), will return on June 22, 2024, with an enhanced programme that promises to be both exciting and educational. For the first time, this year's festival includes a night programme, which is artistically directed by Kamini Ramachandran of Moonshadow Stories and The Storytelling Centre Ltd. The event aims to highlight the Centre's tenants' creativity while also encouraging visitor engagement in a variety of artistic activities.
From 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., guests of all ages can participate in classes, performances, and open studios. A feature is the addition of an outdoor cinema, which provides a pleasant evening atmosphere. There will be plenty of food and drink options available throughout the day, including traditional snacks like ice kacang and kacang puteh.
Goodman Open House 2024 features a diverse range of events. The Ministry of Bellz leads the Community Drum Circle, which allows the public to participate in music-making ending in an Artist Parade. Following this exciting celebration, visitors can relax with Neil Chua's outdoor sound bath session, Nature's Resonance. As night sets, the amphitheatre will hold Movie Night in the Garden, which will include a screening of the blockbuster film Barbie, as well as a live barbecue and beverages.
The festival also focuses on developing emerging artistic talent. Checkpoint Theatre's Monster Magic workshop and Ruanatworkz's Healing Harmonies, which teaches children calming musical instruments, are two examples of kid-friendly activities. Artists such as Khairulddin Wahab and Felix Nai will also hold workshops to educate sustainable creative processes like natural indigo dyeing.
Open Studios provide a unique glimpse into the working settings of more than 66 artists and arts organisations. Highlights include DPLMT's 3D resin printing and tufting sessions, as well as The Observatory's audio immersion experience. A unique cooperation between DPLMT and MINDS will feature a colourful graffiti wall painting produced with the assistance of people with intellectual impairments and their carers. Visitors can also help create the mural during DPLMT's Urban Art Jam.
Interactive works, such as Leo Liu's Cloud Lantern, encourage visitors to participate and represent community hopes as the lantern shines at night. Cultivate Central and Green Action for Communities will collaborate to disseminate environmental knowledge at the Goodman Community Farm as part of a new cooperation with Mountbatten.
Body Fit Training (BFT) will include fitness activities into the Open House, extending gym hours and providing drop-in sessions to foster a sense of community among guests.
Kamini Ramachandran expressed her enthusiasm at returning as guest artistic director, emphasising the value of active participation in the creative process. Sim Wan Hui, Senior Director of Programming and Producing at AHL, highlighted the diverse range of arts activities aimed at delivering both entertainment and education, expecting that guests will make lasting memories at this year's festival.
