Cameron Mackintosh's critically praised new production of "Miss Saigon" will have its greatly awaited debut in Singapore in August 2024. This famous musical, created in conjunction with Base Entertainment Asia and GWB Entertainment, will premiere on August 15, 2024, at the Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands.
The staging of "Miss Saigon," a tribute to Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg's iconic relationship, has already been a huge hit in Australia and at the Sydney Opera House. It is now bringing its engaging narrative and stunning performances to Singapore, where spectators are anticipated to be enthralled by its profound storytelling and impressive stagecraft.
The musical, which has received 70 major theatre prizes, including two Olivier prizes, three Tony Awards, and four Drama Desk Awards, has captivated 38 million people in 32 countries and 350 cities, cementing its place as one of the greatest musicals ever.
Cameron Mackintosh, the acclaimed producer of the new version of "Miss Saigon," stated his enthusiasm for bringing the production to Singapore. He said, "I'm happy to be bringing my fantastic new production of Miss Saigon to Singapore. Without a doubt, this is the best Saigon production I've done in Asia. I do not believe another show of this size will be organised in Singapore in the foreseeable future."
Chantal Prudhomme, CEO of Base Entertainment Asia, reiterated Mackintosh's enthusiasm, emphasising the show's distinct Asian viewpoint and broad appeal. Miss Saigon' portrays the moving narrative of Kim, a young Vietnamese woman orphaned by war who becomes a barmaid under the Engineer's supervision.
Her life changes dramatically when she falls in love with Chris, an American G.I. Their relationship confronts enormous hurdles as they are separated by the fall of Saigon. Kim's poignant story of love, tragedy, and strength unfolds as she seeks to reunite with Chris and their kid.
Laurence Connor's new production boasts an outstanding cast and a breathtaking score. With exceptional production design by Matt Kinley and Totie Driver, mesmerising costumes by Andreane Neofitou, and compelling lighting by Bruno Poet, this rendition of 'Miss Saigon' promises to be a visual and audio feast. William David Brohn's orchestrations, as well as Alfonso Casado Trigo and Guy Simpson's musical supervision, add to the rich, immersive experience of the show.
Audiences will get the opportunity to see "Miss Saigon" live at the Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands. The play will run from August 15, 2024, with performances on Tuesdays through Fridays at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., and Sundays at 1:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Each performance lasts two hours and forty minutes, including intermission.
