Butterfly's Dream - Scenes from Puccini's Madama Butterfly

Set in the 1960s, this new staging of Puccini’s beloved Madama Butterfly weaves video elements in neo noir style as the connectors of the opera’s highlights, hearkening back to the Japanese street theatre tradition of Kamishibai 紙芝居. This never before done presentation is brought to you by the Asian Opera Theatre.

The Asian Opera Theatre is a diverse group of performers and technicians made up of individuals with vast experience and innate talent in their particular specialities, who have come together to express their love for the performing arts through self produced special projects and events. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

The Performers include Wendy Woon, (pictured above) Soprano - A soprano with a warm, burnished and cutting full voice with a passion for opera, alongside a keen interest in vocal rehabilitation. Shaun Lee, Tenor - one of the best young tenor in Singapore, Shaun has been hailed by the straits times as a voice “with a passion and projection that will fill concert halls. 

Chieko Trevatt, Mezzo-soprano - A Japanese mother of three who discovered her passion for opera singing later in life and has been pursuing it ever since. Lingyi Kong, Baritone - A trained singer, agile in varying genres covering folk, jazz, and rock, and have been conducting the choirs of local schools and Samuel King, Piano.
