Bhutan's Department of Tourism is happy to showcase the newly established Jo Bay Tsho Trek, tucked in the picturesque valley of Haa in the country's scenic southwest area, just a short 2-hour drive from Paro. This engaging two-day excursion covers around 25 km, beginning with a breathtaking 84-kilometer drive from Sangbaykha hamlet to Mochu, a delightful location surrounded by thriving farming settlements that provides a riveting introduction to Bhutan's rural landscapes.
The trek begins with a visit to a temple of significant cultural significance, which houses 1,000 statues of Guru Rinpoche, establishing the groundwork for a spiritually stimulating expedition. Accommodation choices include a conveniently located campsite just one kilometre from the Jo Bay Tsho Trek, providing tourists with a comfortable base from which to explore the beautiful surrounds.
Nestled in Bhutan's southern vastness, the Jo Bay Tsho Trek offers a beautiful blend of adventure and calm, inviting travellers to embark on an amazing journey through spectacular natural landscapes steeped in cultural legacy and folklore. This trek offers a scenic voyage through luscious forests, towering peaks, and quiet lakes, providing an unforgettable experience for every explorer.
Along the gently sloping track, adventurers come across beautiful woodlands, dense bamboo thickets, and blooming flora and fauna. The trail goes through wooded enclaves, occasionally revealing expansive meadows and somewhat difficult small tunnels. Throughout the voyage, glimpses of indigenous animals and placid lakes add to the peaceful atmosphere, which is enhanced by the genuine welcome provided by locals.
The highlight of the journey is seeing the beauty of Jo Bay Tsho, also known as the Hidden Lake, a mesmerising body of water that is roughly 300 metres in length and 200 metres in width. On clear days, tourists are treated to unimpeded views of the glistening lake, which is a breathtaking sight to see.
"As we launch the Jo Bay Tsho hiking path, we extend a heartfelt invitation to travellers to embark on a journey of discovery through Bhutan's stunning landscapes and cultural legacy.
