The Aviary Hotel launches its Connect with Community & Culture Package which will be available from June 2023 to 31st October 2023, allowing guests to base themselves at the hotel for two nights and then further explore the essence of Cambodian life and nature via guided tours.
By immersing themselves in various aspects of Cambodian culture, guests can expect to have many memorable interactions with the community throughout the tour by engaging in the preparation and tasting of local cuisine and through an enlightening experience at a pagoda. Guests will also have the chance to witness and interact with different Cambodian villages that have their own unique identity and lifestyles – on both land and water.
“Undoubtedly, the beauty of Cambodia is infinite. And what better way to witness its beauty through the eyes of the friendly locals? We provide our guests the opportunity to interact with the friendly locals and experience the Cambodian culture from their perspective.” said General Manager Joffrey Thin-Gris who believes that it will not only leave guests with a newfound appreciation for Cambodian culture, but also leave them with an abundance of unforgettable memories that they can take home.
Guests who choose to embark on their Cambodian adventure with The Aviary Hotel can expect a flavourful start to their journey at Kok Sangke Community where guests have the opportunity to indulge in traditional Khmer desserts like bamboo sticky rice and a scrumptious Khmer lunch prepared from scratch by a local family in their home. They will also have the chance to see how the produce is cultivated with care and thoughtfulness through the sustainable farming and horticultural practices.
Guests can expect to experience another form of sweet bliss as they enter the Wat Luang Proleung, home to locals’ beliefs, where one can marvel at the pagoda’s intricate design and storied past. They will also have the chance to observe the sacred rituals that are still practised today and even receive a water monk blessing said to bring good luck. This trip includes a local performance known as Chhayam – a traditional Khmer dance that is known to be colourful, lively and brimming with contagious enthusiasm.
A refreshing change of landscape is in the cards at the final stop – Kampong Khleang, a village built on high stilts on the Tonle Sap located around 50 kilometres away from the city. Different from the picturesque small villages that rest ashore, this is a remote floating village enveloped in serenity. A tranquil tour of the village on a private boat ride allows guests to have a glimpse of how resourceful villagers adapt on water – commuting via boats, a livelihood centred around floating markets and fishing for the next biggest catch. Simply put, this is their way of life.
Alongside this tour, the package also includes different room categories for guests to stay at The Aviary Hotel. Notably, the relaxing retreat is forested in the palm of Siem Reap’s vibrant greenery. This same sense of solace can be found in The Aviary Hotel’s eco-friendly rooms that are adorned with a variety of designs reminiscent of the local culture and birds. There are four categories: Tailorbird Standard Room, Kingfisher Deluxe Room, Sambok Deluxe Plus Room and Sarus Crane Suite.
Along with the property’s renovation that has introduced its newest dining and retail concept, its relatively new Sambok Deluxe Plus Rooms have been meticulously crafted by local artisans with the vision of having Khmer culture and avian-inspired art breathe life into the rooms. One such example is the organza silk lamp in the room, which was designed by a Cambodia-based fashion designer known for experimenting with juxtaposing textiles in his work, Eric Raisina, who infused his boldness and creativity into the lamp that is held up by brass duck feet stands. It adds a hint of quirky fun to the elegant space for guests to admire and enjoy before or after the tour.
The Aviary Hotel’s Connect with Community & Culture Package has a starting price of US$446 for two guests. During the tour, guests will be provided with bottled water and lunch while they travel to the different locations in an air-con vehicle with a local English-speaking guide.
This package also includes roundtrip transfers to the airport, daily breakfast for two, access to the main pools and the hotel’s Wi-Fi.
