1.     Buzz off

Top of the list has to be bug spray and not just any bug spray but make sure you buy one with deet in it for extra strength; surprisingly not many in Singapore include this.

2.     Cream up

Obviously for a holiday in the sun, sun cream is an essential, you know this. However, and this may sound stupid, but being an avid sun cream user I still have never burnt like I have when on holiday in Asia so keep topping it up and make sure you pack that soothing after sun for the inevitable post sun sesh relief. It’s going in the case now.

3.     Fight the frizz

I don’t know about you but my poor little scalp always seems to crisp up in the sun unless I use a hair protector spray which not only protects your scalp from burning but it also protects your hair from the rays of the sun. Another great product for your hair on holiday is an anti-frizz serum to keep your holiday hair under control.

4.     Brolly dolly

Even though I hate to say it, the weather over this side of the world can be so unpredictable and there is nothing like a tropical downpour to dampen your holiday mood so pack your brolly just incase so you’re not caught out.

5.     Flippy-floppy

Since moving to Singapore I have never worn flip flops so much, I practically live in them out here and they are so versatile and you don’t need to worry about getting them ruined as they are resilient little things.

6.     Two-piece

Inevitably wherever you go over here will have a pool if not a beach too so a selection of bikinis are going in my case to help me cool off from the heat.

7.     My drugs are better than yours

Oh how I miss good old Boots and Superdrug from the UK for my holiday staples (what a saddo). A trait I have inherited from my mother is that I now bring the whole medicine cabinet, JUST INCASE. Trust me the pharmacies just aren’t the same out here.

8.     Cover up

So if you are being a culture vulture on your trip and plan to visit some temples make sure you pack long trousers ladies otherwise you won’t be able to go in. I happen to hate those harem trousers or traveller trousers as I call them but they are very useful for throwing on when needed and I am slowly coming round to the idea. Maybe.

9.     Beach trash

Beach holidays are the perfect opportunity to relax and do nothing but read some wonderfully entertaining and oh so trashy books. Here are some recommendations for you.

10. Sign language

Sometimes things can get lost in translation out here and from past experience I realized my sign language is apparently not universal. What do you mean you don’t understand that pointing over there means I want to go to a hotel in the next town?! Weird. So from now on I always print everywhere off to show taxi drivers where I need to go.
