A Song of Cocktails and Dancing - Singapore Rolls out the Coyotes
When romcom Coyote Ugly hit the screens twenty years ago, the American musical drama film was based on the actual Coyote Ugly Saloon. Blonde bombshell Piper Perabo played the siren Violet Sanford — the original ‘Coyote’.
A ‘Coyote’ refers to the dancing girls that prance along the bar in various states of dress — joining the local team on a regular basis will be ‘Coyotes’ from the other bars around the world. You can count on them to add spice to the night’s entertainment and will include sisters from Ukraine, Russia and the USA.
The movie, one of Jerry Bruckheimer’s favourites, is set in New York City and despite the mixed response from critics, grossed over $113 million worldwide. Over the last two decades, the film has become a classic and has acquired a cult following that has spawned a chain of bars - one of which has just opened in Singapore’s Clarke Quay.
The sprawling Coyote Ugly Saloon outlet can pack in a capacity of 700, all processed through their hallmark saloon doors. Inside, drinkers are greeted by signature graffiti murals of Calavera Day of the Dead skulls (from The Day of the Dead [Día de Muertos] which is a Mexican holiday) on the walls and red banquette seats.
Marquee lights spell out the bar’s name at the back of the bar top, specially designed for dancing by Coyotes and female patrons. And, of course, the Coyotes are always there to welcome customers and turn up the heat with sizzling dance moves. The bucking machine is a must try - Expat Choice founder, John Gordon, did an excellent job hanging on. All part of the fun.
Coyote Ugly Saloon is also attempting to set the bar lower for happy hour prices in notoriously expensive Clarke Quay - $10 drink deals will start at 5pm and run until 9pm daily.
Best get dinner elsewhere - or stick to something extremely simple. Unless you are a fan of ropey pizza with corn chip toppings. Bizarre! Nonetheless, a great place to hangout and have some fun. Wednesdays are ladies nights where various specials are on offer. It’s a time tested concept where the potential for a lot of clean - and not so clean! - fun is to be had.

Coyote Ugly Saloon, the well-known American bar and restaurant brand that inspired the cult movie of the same name, features female bartenders and dancers called Coyotes in a fun, drinking environment.
