International Performing Artist Leandra Lane Launches "Motown Kids" To Bring Out The Best In Your Child

Published - 16 January 2021, Saturday

Coming directly from Motown bloodline, Leandra Lane is an African American Dutch Eurasian singer-songwriter, actress, Dancer, music child protegee who has achieved national acclaim in Singapore for being a unique artiste in her genre.

One of the very few artistes in the world to be Michael Jackson endorsed, Leandra is Singapore’s most loved Rock and Soul artiste and has been compared to Tina Turner, Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey.

Her one-of-a-kind music style adds a touch of an old school sound mixed with her distinctive Rock and soul sound with a touch of the new age style. At a young age, Leandra’s music was considered rare and now as an adult is one of the most sought-after artistes in Asia.

With that, Leandra Lane has started her new venture for kids and teenagers called the “Motown Kids” in Singapore. The vocal group sees kids and teenagers, learning, practicing, and showcasing their vocal talents and performance abilities in preparation for live shows right here in Singapore.

Expat Choice caught up with Leandra Lane on Zoom recently to learn more about what she has been up to during the COVID-19 lockdown period and what her plans are for 2021?

Leandra shares, "As an artiste, it’s been a year of challenges for musicians all over the world. I’ve forced myself to see the glass as half full as I’ve been blessed to have received performing opportunities including performing for Minister Edwin Tong for the Chiam See Tong Sports Fund.

I was also blessed to perform to thousands of UK and European viewers online, performed for hospital frontline workers on Zoom and even starred in my first acting debut “Lion Moms” Season 4 which will be out in early 2021.

I was also extra busy giving kids and teenagers vocal classes and organising Vocal Camps over the holiday periods in 2020. Music makes everyone happy and it isn’t what I do, it is who I am."

Leandra has recently launched a new venture called “Motown Kids”, which she describes..."Growing up since the age of two, I was trained by my sister who is also my manager Leynette, for eight hours a day. She helped me see the true joy of music.

I’m a strong believer - kids should have fun whilst learning music and experience the confidence of trying something new and have the opportunity to perform live on stage for an audience.

With this, “Motown Kids” gives children a sense of belonging and helps create new friendships with friends who enjoy doing the same thing, that is , creating and sharing music experiences together"

Children right up to the age of 14 are welcome to join in a fun of "Motown Kid's", Leandra shares, "It's a non- competitive environment. Every Saturday at 12pm for an hour, children have the chance to thrive in a performing arts environment."

Leandra enjoys teaching kids and loves watching them grow. As a parent, Leandra knows how much happiness a parent receives when a son or daughter is happy and confident doing something they love.

So, does Leandra have a motto for the young ones who’d like to follow her and be a successful artiste like herself?

"I would say, dream big, keep singing. You can do anything you put your mind to. Also remember the term stage fright, is just a term someone made up! Dare to be different and sing!
