Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT) invites you to embark on a unique theatrical experience with the much-anticipated performance, Por Por's Big Fat Surprise Wedding.
Set against the backdrop of a specially constructed pop-up restaurant at One Farrer Hotel, this dinner theatre experience offers a delicious blend of delectable cuisine and engaging storytelling.
SRT continues to push the boundaries of immersive theatre with breakthrough site-specific performances such as Shakespeare in the Park, Caught (2019), and C-O-N-T-A-C-T (2022). Por Por's Big Fat Surprise Wedding, spearheaded by famous Singaporean legend Dick Lee, praised for his work in Forbidden City - Portrait of an Empress and Fried Rice Paradise, is destined to be a riveting addition to their repertoire.
With the famous Ah Kong's Birthday Party in 1998, SRT created history as Singapore's first producer of dinner theatre. This show, co-created by Dick Lee, became the longest-running local theatre production, enthralling spectators for a remarkable six-month period.
"The combination of theatre and cuisine makes for a great night out," Lee says of Ah Kong's Birthday Party's success, "which I'm happy to revive with this brand-new show."
The theatre-goers are treated to a spectacular four-course meal curated by Michelin Star Chef Manjunath Mural, the co-owner of ADDA Singapore, at the exclusive pop-up restaurant in One Farrer Hotel. Mural highlights his commitment to making regional Indian cuisine available to everybody.
"Indian cuisine is rich in history, tradition, ingredients, and techniques." "My passion has always been to share and make accessible the heritage of regional Indian cuisine," Chef Mural says.

Jo Tan's Dual Role: Playwright and Actress
Jo Tan, an award-winning playwright and actress, takes command of scripting a gripping narrative in a stunning dual role. Tan aspires to tell a story that goes beyond the surface, going into the personal journey of a seventy-year-old woman rediscovering the joy in her life. The entire bridal party is comprised of an intimate cast of seven characters negotiating the complexities of running a huge feast while struggling with family secrets and underlying conflicts.
"Por Por's Big Fat Surprise Wedding aims to tell the more personal story of a seventy-year-old lady rediscovering some excitement in her life, and her family's hangups about it; it's just a skeleton team of 7 characters making up the entire bridal party, who are scrambling around trying to run a massive banquet and manoeuvre around the secrets and elephants in the room," Jo Tan explains.
The play, directed by Dick Lee, features a stellar ensemble that includes Koh Chieng Mun, Jo Tan, Edward Choy, Bridget Fernandez, Ric Liu, Tiara Yap, and Chacko Vadaketh, each bringing their own distinct talents to bring the characters and storyline to life.
