Artefakts

Artefakts

Guests can rely on Artefakts to help them uncover their inner artist (and quite possibly hidden Picasso skills!), as its known to be a trusty and happening locale in town. Welcoming everyone from newbie artists to seasoned creatives — each one has the ability and opportunity to pursue their artistic passion, when they take up classes like art jamming and printmaking. Go ahead, express your creativity and paint away — and beginners need not fret, as they can still ask for advice and help from around the studio. Jeffrey Ang, Founder of Artefakts, says the name was inspired by the word ‘artefacts’ which simply means “an object of cultural interest made by someone.” His belief, is that everything which is created does indeed become a personalised artefact — a work of art — bearing one’s unique fingerprint and mark.

*Your canvas size of choice will determine the class price; choose between a 30cm by 30cm canvas ($40) or a 40cm by 50cm canvas at $50. It’s two and a half hours per session and each additional hour will set you back another $10-$15. Materials are all provided too. Image Credit: Artefakts Facebook Page

Like most of you, I’ve been in Singapore for almost nineteen months and have explored our little red dot from top to bottom. Much to my delight, there is a new adventure in Singapore called Spin Paint House. I jumped at the chance to try my hand at Spin Art. I have watched in fascination to see the different techniques people use to create beautiful, original abstract art. Spin Paint House just opened in August 2021 and is the perfect place for a solo adventure, a couples’ outing, family fun or a night out with friends. Upon arrival, you will get a full orientation, a painting apron and a locker to store your belongings safely.

The staff providing the orientation are friendly, welcoming and enthusiastic as they introduce the Spin Paint House studio. The stark white studio is flooded with natural light and adorned with colourful spin art paintings on the wall.  After your orientation, you choose your paint colours and off your go!

I am not naturally blessed with artistic talent but I’m strong in making colour choices. My friend and fellow Expat Choice contributor, Rob Schilling, and I each had our canvasses and started the fun. As an added bonus, each individual painting area is equipped with a ring light and phone holder so you can video your process or take photos. Pour your paints and begin the spin.

We did get a little messy during the process, mostly with paint on our hands. It washed right off after we were done. We had the best time and both look forward to a return visit.

There are spin wheels appropriately sized for adults and children making this experience fun for all ages. There are several packages to choose from depending on the size of your group. I left feeling like a true artist. I highly recommend playing at Spin Paint House.
