It started out with a simple, earnest ambition to create and share some good old-fashioned cake with their local community; cake that was made with real wholesome ingredients, and was familiar and comforting.

In a world of mass-produced confections, they wanted to go back to basics and bake like their mums and grandmothers used to – moist red velvet cupcakes topped with vanilla buttercream, apple pound cake drizzled with caramel, decadent chocolate brownies, warm and fudgey on the inside.

The kind of scents, flavours and textures that make them nostalgic for days gone by.

From humble beginnings at a small take-away spot in Singapore’s Holland Village, today they sell baked goods, food, lifestyle goods and homewares across four outlets.

But they haven’t forgotten their roots, or that nostalgia for savouring something that is home-made.

As sticklers for quality and simplicity, they take great pride in what they do and take time to continuously perfect all of their creations  – their range of deli and bake items are hand crafted in small-quantities using fresh produce, wholesome ingredients and no artificial preservatives; and the selection of packaged food and homeware products they carry in their stores represent the work of others in their community of like-minded makers, who share their passion for quality, simplicity and sustainability.

Anyone who has ever baked a cake will tell you it’s not rocket science.

Butter, sugar, flour, eggs, beat together, chuck in the oven, and – bam – you have cake.

What no one talks about is what it takes to make a good cake. We think we have that bit down pat.

Always bake fresh; day-old cakes never quite make the cut.

Only use the best of ingredients; French butter, pure Madagascar Bourbon vanilla, bittersweet Belgian chocolate, perfectly ripe bananas.

Skip the artificial preservatives. Buy from local suppliers; that way you know your eggs are fresh and your coffee beans newly roasted.

Use seasonal produce so you’ll always be getting the best of the crop. And never ever, ever take shortcuts.

Sift that flour thrice, toast those walnuts and grate that lemon zest by hand just as you’re about to use it.

We won’t lie to you; it takes a good dose of heart.

We honor home baking traditions and keep our recipes uncomplicated, but we take the time to get it bang-on perfect.

We mull over spices, chocolate, and fruits and deliberate on how to refine familiar flavors.

We think real hard about what we put in front of you to eat.
