How Does It Work?

Regenerative grazing management principles aim to increase soil carbon storage through carbon sequestration to improve soil health and biodiversity. Soil carbon sequestration is a process in which carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere and stored in the soil carbon pool. This process is primarily mediated by plants through photosynthesis, with carbon stored in the form of soil organic carbon.

Several studies have shown an increase of 10 -13% in soil carbon on regenerative farms compared to traditional grazing approaches. Increasing the amount of carbon stored in agricultural soils can help mitigate rising greenhouse gas emissions.

Roots Producers

Roots Regenerative works with like-minded cattle producers in Eastern Australia who all share the common goal of using livestock to regenerate and heal the environment. All its approved suppliers must be verified as Regenerative through its 3-step process.

  1. Producer self-assessmentProducers are required to complete an online self-assessment to identify their eligibility to supply into the Roots program based on their own regenerative practices. This self-assessment will cover the five principles of Soil Health as well as the principles of Regenerative Grazing of Livestock.
  2. On-farm verificationProducers are required to provide examples of how they are applying Regenerative principles on their property. Paradigm Foods have employed a recognised Regenerative Grazing consultant to work with its producers through this On-Farm Verification.
  3. Satellite verificationParadigm Foods uses satellite imagery to assess the groundcover, remnant vegetation, tree cover, deforestation, and pasture quality. This satellite imagery assessment can then be used to benchmark the farmer against surrounding properties across their region.
