The Bone Marrow Donor Programme (BMDP) is poised to have a huge impact with the release of its maiden National Survey 2024 results and the introduction of its Stories Book, Saving Lives Together, during the upcoming Match for Life (MFL) 2024. This flagship event will be held on November 9, 2024, in Our Tampines Hub Festive Plaza and will last all day. The stage program, which begins at noon, will be graced by Senior Minister of State Dr Janil Puthucheary, who will lend his support to this historic endeavour aimed at transforming public participation with marrow donation.
Between May and October 2024, BMDP conducted a nationwide study with over 3,000 participants to assess public knowledge, attitudes, and barriers to bone marrow donation. The poll findings, which will be revealed at the event, provide vital insights into the variables that limit public engagement in marrow donation.
The BMDP wants to improve the donor pool and, as a result, the number of lives saved by spotlighting motives that may entice more people to donate. The findings demonstrate the organization's commitment to raising marrow donation awareness and creating a more supportive community for life-saving activities.
Along with the poll results, the BMDP will release its first experience book, Saving Lives Together, a collection of powerful personal experiences from donors, recipients, volunteers, partners, and BMDP employees. Through these experiences, the book emphasises each person's transforming journey while also celebrating the courage and passion of those who contribute to BMDP's purpose. These stories attempt to promote a better understanding of the profound ripple effects of bone marrow donation, emphasising the collaborative effort required to help people in need.
The Match for Life campaign, which is an annual highlight for the BMDP, will include a two-day MFL Carnival with informative exhibits, interactive activities, delectable food booths and entertainment featuring superhero cosplayers such as Superman and Captain America. This family-friendly event encourages participants to engage in fun activities while learning about the life-saving mission of marrow donation. Carnival attendees will have the opportunity to interact directly with BMDP officials, volunteers, and partners to learn more about marrow donation and find ways to help.
The MFL event, which combines education, storytelling, and community engagement, aims to increase participation in marrow donation across Singapore. Attendees will leave with a deeper appreciation for the program's vision and a revitalised awareness of how they, too, can help save lives.
