Marshall Cavendish International Publish Humorous Fiction ‘Diary of a Former Covidiot' by First Time Singapore Author Christina Thé

Published - 17 August 2020, Monday

Christina and her family have called Singapore home for over two decades. Originally Indonesian born, she subsequently went on to experience life in several other countries including Australia and the U.K., and merrily collected 4 degrees along the way. Half for herself, half for her beloved parents.

As an amiable observer of people, she finds human nature fascinating and a great source of inspiration. As a soprano she trained at the Royal Academy of Music in London and has enjoyed singing at the Carnegie Hall in New York. Today, Christina regularly appears in Singapore’s opera scene and writes humorous realistic fiction while leading life as a modern single mother.

A new International phenomenon ‘Diary of a Former Covidiot' tells the tales of panic buying, surviving and finding humour during the Coronavirus Pandemic. This publication is a collection of stories, written from a humourous perspective on irrational human behaviour in a time of crisis.

The Coronavirus or to use its hippier name, the Covid 19 pandemic has affected everyone across the globe, regardless of race, age, sex or religion. With an astute sense of observation, Christina Thé has been inspired by how people behave in times such as this.

“Locked-up” at home for 56 days, she has written these pieces to cheer up her friends and business associates; and to counter all the gloom and doom that is in the news. Though the incidents are all based on real incidents that have happened, the characters have been slightly exaggerated, as this is after all, a book of humour.

We can empathise and relate to her stories as it is how we all behave, or we know someone just like that, even if we refuse to publicly admit to such irrational actions. It is an entertaining work written with wit and humour.

Christina’s love for performing arts started off with classical ballet training since childhood, which she pursued until her high school years. After making her switch from finance into opera singing, Christina began her operatic career at the Singapore Lyric Opera as Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte, where she was privileged to work with acclaimed director Justin Way (currently associate Director of the Metropolitan Opera).

Notably in 2018, the year saw her performing in concerts at Carnegie Hall, at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, and her debut as Queen of the Night in Mozart’s The Magic Flute at the National Opera Centre in New York.

A Master graduate and a Licentiate of the prestigious Royal Academy of Music in London, United Kingdom, Christina has undergone further artistic and technical training in the world’s leading music institutions famous for their rigorous and exacting demands, including at: the Accademia Musicale Chigiana, Siena, Italy; the Academie de Musique Tibor Varga, Sion, Switzerland; and at Mirella Freni’s Centro Universale di Bel Canto, as well as intensive courses in Hamburg Conservatory and Royal College of Music.

She won top prizes at numerous international competitions such as Australian Concerto and Vocal Competition (Open Vocal, 2nd prize, 2016), IMKA Competition (Open Opera category, 1st Prize, 2018), Salzburg Grand Prize Virtuoso (Open Vocal, 1st Prize, 2018), American Protégé International Vocal Competition (Opera Aria, 2nd Prize, 2018), Golden Classical Music Awards (1st Prize, 2018). Christina also received an Honourable Mention at Berlin’s Rising Star Grand Prix (2019), and is a finalist of Osaka International Music Competition (2018).

In her birth country Indonesia, her previous music projects include a soundtrack recording with Warner Music Indonesia, collaborating with renowned Indonesian artist Melly Goeslaw on the motion picture HEART, on a song titled ‘Kehilangan’, and one of her live performance highlights was to sing for the President of Indonesia at the National Stadium in Senayan, Jakarta.
